My 2001 stalls when it is really hot outside, and the fuel is below half tank. It will just loose power and die driving down the road. very annoying. It never happens in the cool weather months.
You need a new fuel pump. There was a program to pay for this for 10 years I think for some 2000-01 Foucs. Here's what the letter from Ford says: December 2003 Program 03N01 "Attached is a letter announcing the details of a no-charge program Ford Motor Company will be conducting concerning your vehicle's fuel pump. We have found some 2000-01 Ford Focus vehicles may experience symptoms of engine hesitation, loss of power, surging and other similar symptoms ...... as a rsult of progressive contamination of the fuel pump filters." (in the fuel pump). You may reduce the liklihood of the symptoms occurring by kee[ing the tank at least half full. My recollection is the program was good for 10 years. Ask your local Ford Dealer if your car is eligible for this program.
There also was a follow up letter from Ford that said the program was good for 10 years unlimited mileage from the warranty start date. So, you should be covered for a free fuel pump. The dealer can run your 17 digit VIN number in their computer to verify coverage on your car.
I used to be a Ford service rep so I know how the system works. Call any Ford dealer with your VIN number and ask them to check if you are eligible for "ONP 03N01"
Also, don't forget to give me a hig rating if this solves your issue. Thanks.

Have your evaporative emission control system check to make sure your purge valve and purge solenoid working.controlling fuel vapors.if not it will cause stalling.also have charcoal canister check to make sure its not full of gas.
