this is inside the passenger compartment, not the one in the underhood bay

It is Under hood, center, upper engine area, front driver side of engine, mounted on cylinder head. And looks like this:

6 cyl. and 8 cyl. engines are divided into 2 Banks, standing in front of the Engine, the Bank 1 is the side where the #1 spark plug is (on V6 Ford Engines is on the PASSENGER SIDE). Bank 2 is on the DRIVERS SIDE.
Check the following diagram for HO2 sensor locations (This diagram applies to Ranger, Explorer and Mountaineer models) :



2 would be Bank 1 and 2A would be Bank 2.

Have a compression test done ,and look for a vacuum leak near the cylinder,like a vacuum hose or intake gasket.If the compression test shows a fluctuation between the 3 and 4 cylinder,then the head gasket would need to be replaced.

The camshaft sensor is located at the back of the head on driver side. Remove the wire,unscrew the sensor,screw the new sensor in the head and put the wire back on the sensor

The camshaft sensor is not in the back on the 98 4 cyl its right in front. All you need to do is take off the 3 bolts on the top of the heat shield and pull it back a bit and it will be right there.

go to your local ford dealer and ask if they could look up the wiring diagram, and maybe print it off for you, they have the access to a database specific to each make, depending on what dealership, so just ask and see what they can do. I spent 3 months interning at 2 dealerships, most of the time the service guys aren't that money hungry so they should be willing to help you out if you are polite, and they aren't busy. ask for the service manager, that would be your best bet. i think you will need new valves if pulley come loose.timing marks on end of cams a slot on each cam ,the flats have to be level with the head,i use a piece of flat old ally bar for this.

are you sure you are not 180 out on crank..crank turns twice to 1 turn of cam/s..top dead center #1 cyl. w/ both valves shut-[compression stroke] is what you want to start. some require special alighnment tools to alighn upper to lower''...kev-mn.

Yes if it is the larger 4 cylinder and they are located under the valve cover pan and on top of the head
