SOURCE: Intermittent loss of engine power in 1998 olds bravada
Unhook your battery (neg terminal), let it sit for ten minutes, then start the car and let it run for two minutes without touching anything. This resets the computer, I had a Buick that required this about three times a year, fixed it every time. If this isn't your problem, is is getting progressively worse? Look at the coil, it may need to be replaced. Of course, make sure your air cleaner is clean. Do you have any codes in your computer? Go to one of the discount auto parts stores they will read it for free. Of all the sensors, it may be the mass airflow sensor, look atr this link, it is located in air delivery system connected to your air cleaner housing. If you pull it out DON'T BREAK THE WIRES IN IT, but you can sometimes clean them with denatured alcohol and a Q-tip.

SOURCE: service engine soon light is
Evaporative emission control system Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) sensor high input-----
This is a normal defect in late 90's model GMs. To be more specific, your fuel tank has sensors set in place to slowly release pressure to regulate the fuel system. One of the sensors has malfunctioned and is causing the service engine light to turn on. It has absolutely no bearing on the mechanical operation or performance of the vehicle. Unless you want to spend over a thousand dollars to repair something unnecessarily, just learn to live with the light. Nothing else will come of it.
