Sounds like a Fuel Pump that is ready to die. Have your Fuel Pressure tested to make sure. Volvo is very good about making the Fuel Pump easy to access through a hatch in the floor of the Trunk or under the back seat.

system to lean means that there is not enough gas getting into the system try checking fuel filter and fuel injectors that should help you there hope everything works out
