Once jumped n the jumper cables are removed it dies again.
I would think it's not charging , alternator problem maybe .Is the battery light lit on the instrument cluster ?
sounds like a charging problem, check your alternator output, as for the coolant leak, was it getting to hot? if so you could have a slipping belt which would cause a low charge rate and not run the waterpump enough to cool
What make vehicle an year ? Did you check for battery voltage at the heavier gage wire on the back of the alternator ? The connector at the alternator , how many wires are there ? Should have B+ voltage one or possibly two . Is the charging light (battery symbol ) lit ? You could have a blown fuse or fusible link ! Do you have a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter ? Do you know how to use one ? You need to get a wiring diagram for the charging system for your Vehicle .
Hi Bev , if the battery light is on that is probably the whole problem . The battery light on is a indication the charging system is malfunctioning ,not charging . The brake light an ABS are probably linked together , because of low voltage ! The first thing to do is test to see if the alternator is working , hook a voltmeter to the battery . The reading should be 13.1- 14.1 volts if charging ,if only 12.6 it's not charging . If it's not charging you could have a bad alternator , blown fuse's ,wiring problem etc....You could take it by an auto parts store ,if there is one near you . They check these thing's for free ,an be glad to sell you an part !
you mentioned new alternator and battery, but it seem that the alternator is not charging, when you install the new battery the car started and run and after hours of running specially if head light is on the car shuts down. this is an indication that the alternator is not charging. (factory defect) have it checked or return part to auto supply.
if alternator is good and you have the car jumped and run it will not shut down even if your battery is dead because the charge of the alternator is enough to power the electrical system of the car until you turn it off. this applies to all cars
your charging system is working okay or you would have to have it jumped more than once a day.you have a bad battery that needs replacing as running it during the day the charging system keeps the battery charged up enough to work.you could have a drain on the battery from something in the car that is not shutting down that you will have to have checked out.or sitting over night the battery runs down to the point that it needs to be jumped started if its an old battery(over5-6years).
Sounds like a bad alternator, engine will only run till battery goes weak, due to alternator not charging system, any auto parts will check your charging system at no charge, hope this was very helpful.
This sounds like a generator problem or a dead cell in battery. If you have a local Autozone, Advanced Autoparts, or Oreilly Auto Parts they can check battery and charging system for free at the curb side. If your battery has a dead cell in it it wont hold a charge. Since you say you jumped the vehicle that means the alternator/generator is putting out some voltage to keep car running.. but it may be under performing and not producing enough volts 13.5 or higher to charge battery.
Sounds like a bad altnator. if the alt. is working propperly it will run the burb. with out the battery installed. With that though, it possiably could of damaged the batt. enough to the point of replacement as well.
