I will list several things it could be first bad throttle position sensor, need to hook up diagnostic scanner to verify.2nd possible fuel pump not putting up enough pressure when this happens generally when you push the accelerator pedal the car will die,now if you have a throttle cable still for the accelerator pedal the cable could have broken or came off on top of the engine you can see it .is it turbo charged bad turbo can cause this.lastly the convertor could be plugged which cause the exhaust to be come restricted so the engine cant rev up ,you will hjere like a hissing sound when you try to rev up or put your hand at the end of the tailpipe see if it has good flow out the tailpipe

Jaguar will not

Try the "clear flood" method. Hold gas pedal to the floor and crank the engine over till it starts and builds rpm and make sure you release the gas pedal in time so that you don't over rev. the engine. Then feather the pedal trying to maintain 1500rpm for one minute then let idle .

My accelerator on my 91 chevy corsica is stuck and it wont disengage, when i put it in park the engine continues to rev up, any ideas on how to fix?

It sounds like the gas control lever under the hood may be sticking a little and not retracting fully to idle.Open your hood and have someone start your car. When they give it some gas you should see the actuator move which has a cable attached, probably located at the end of the fuel injectors on the driver side.It should be pretty noticeable as about the only moving mechanism when the gas pedal is pushed.Usually pushing the gas pedal makes the lever move toward the driver.Once you have found it,push down on it in the opposite direction as giving gas to see if the revs decrease back closer to idle.If it does,WD-40 on the hinge where it pivots may help.Spray it,rev it a couple times and check.Even if it works on the first try,do it a couple more times. If this does not work, please reply back and I will get an auto link to see what you posted. Good luck! Greg

When I push the gas pedal the RPM's rev really high and it takes a little time for the gear to catch.

The RPM's are revolutions per minute. So when you step on the gas, the RPM's should rev high. Not going into gear is a safety feature,

When starting in cold weather, the car races and then almost stalls (revs go between 400 to 2300), after it warms up it's fine.

I would look at the coolant temp sensor.  The sensor is what controls the idle when temp is below a certain degree so it wont stall because it is cold.  To over ride this feature you need to press the gas pedal to the floor then start it.  If it works as it should go to your local parts store and buy a coolant temp sensor and change it out.  If you are not familiar with your car you can buy a Haynes manual and it will walk you through the process step by step.
