12 gauge will work, i would soilder the wire to the connector, and connect the other end to your wire with a wirenut. simple and easy. you can use any wire you have laying around, as long as its of comparible size. Not really a technical thing, its just a light.

You can also use shrinkable wire butt connectors but I would go to either autozone or advance or somewhere even wal-mart and get a 2 wire polarized connector for a few bucks and cut all the wires and put the new connector on..use black tape to cover the bare wires for now..after all is just a light..

I purchased a used 2008 Jeep Patriot and it didn't come with fog lights. I have purchased OEM fog lights but I am having a hard time finding the connector plug to with them. Suggestion?

I have not run into this problem before. Usually, people either purchase the vehicle equipped with fog lamps from the factory or they add aftermarket fog lamps to the vehicle after purchase. In your case, you are trying to connect factory lamps that were not there from the factory? I'm not sure that you will find the connectors you are looking for. I do know for certain that the factory fog lamps are computer-controlled and that if the vehicle was not equipped with them from the factory, then the computer will not be programmed to make them work. If the wiring and connectors are there at all, they will be coming from the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) located on the left fender. The factory wires are WHITE/YELLOW for the left fog lamp and WHITE/ORANGE for the right fog lamp. What about control switches, wire, etc. Did you purchase all of that as well?

Need a fuse box diagram to wire in fog lights

Fog lamps are installed on the front bumper. The switch is located to the left of the steering column on the dash panel. The fog lamps are turned off by the circuit relay when the high beam driving lamps are turned on. The circuit relay is located on the right front wheelhouse panel near the blower motor.

Good luck, and remember rated this help.
Removal & InstallationFog Lamp Element
See Figure 1
558610d.gif
Fig. 1: Exploded view of a fog lamp assembly

  1. Remove the lamp stone shields, the four bezel attaching screws, and the bezel.
  2. Remove the reflector assembly from the lamp body.
  3. Remove the bulb holder from the assembly. Remove the element from the bulb.

DO NOT handle elements with your bare hands, always handle with a clean cloth. Oil from your hands will cause the element to fail.
  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Fog Lamp Switch
The fog lamp switch is removed and installed by simply prying the switch from the instrument panel and unplugging the electrical connector.
FOGLAMP BEAM ADJUSTMENT

  1. Position the vehicle on a level surface, facing a wall approximately 25 feet away. Remove the lamp stone shields and loosen the adjustment nuts.
  2. Turn the fog lamps ON and adjust as follows:
    1. Distance between the light beam centers should be equal to the distance between the lamp assemblies on the bumper.
    2. Height of the light beams on the wall should be 4 inches less than the center of the lamp assemblies when mounted on the bumper.
  3. Install all previously removed items after turning OFF the fog lamps.

Front brake pad light comes on, but the pads are new

It is not the brake computer. The front left inside brake pad is the noly pad with a sensor in it. If the light is on it is usually because the wire connector broke and is now causing an open signal, cauing the light in the cluster to come on. Remove the front left wheel. Remove the connector for the brake pad attached to the shock assembly. Check the terminals for corrosion. The pins must be clean and not blackend or green. The female side connector terminals must be straight and not widened. If you want to be sure you can do 1 of 2 things. Check the resistance of the the 2 pins going to the brake pad. It must be 0 resistance meaning not open. Or bypass the female connector temporarily with a paper clip or wire and start the car. If the light goes off it means the pad is the cause or the connector. I have often seen the wire still holding and not broken completely but when you remove the pad the ridge of the inside of the disk has worn the wire to the point where it broke prematurally. Sometimes just a light tug and it'll break.

98 Jeep Cherokee Fog lights

It's definitely the switch...I bought two of 'em so far...known bug. I don't use the fog lights as much anymore , but the "Airtex" oem equivalent switch from Rockauto seems to be holding up well. If you dissamble your broke switch you'll probably see evidence that it is beginning to melt and theres alot, maybe too much, grease, which may or may not have been the cause of the bad, heating contacts inside switch.
If I remember right, even though the foglights have a relay there is still full amperage going through the switch or something....don't qoute me on that last statement.
