2007 Ford Freestyle. Middle row seat behind driver will not fold or tip. (Someone broke into my vehicle and broke the glass next to this seat. Don't know if a piece of glass is causing my problem). How do I fix this problem?

    Hello Rylee:

    Thank you for your reply.

I do not know what to do, based on the information you sent. The handle on the side moves, but the seat back will not tilt nor will the entire seat tip forward. How do I access the mechanism? Do I remove the plastic cover on the side of the seat or is there another way to access the mechanism?

    Thank you for your help.

Can someone tell me how to access the tilt mechanism? There is a plastic cover over the mechanism and there seems to be a small screw on the bottom of the plastic cover. There is not enough clearance to properly use a screwdriver to remove this screw. Is there a special tool for this or is there a technique to get this screw off?

Tried sitting in the seat and pushing back with the handle raised - no luck -seat back will not move back or forward. Any ideas on how to access the spring you mentioned or the mechanism that the spring is in?

Opening the lift gate and the second row seats are very easy as they're nicely spring loaded to be right around neutral, with a preference toward springing up (not down). So more effort is needed to push down on both.

With the spring loading, the manual lift gate can be opened with one finger hitting the button under the handle to unlatch it, and the hatch springs open quickly. This is about the same effort as hitting a button on a key. Closing the hatch is fine too. Most short people are able to reach the top handle for closing. The only problem is that near the bottom when closing, you need to put your hand on the outside for a final push, or pull down with a lot of momentum so it keeps going. In contrast, pictures of the power lift gate show some of the trunk taken up by a power pod and arm to push up the gate.

Similarly, the spring loaded manual rear seat can be folded up real quick for access with one touch on the release handle. An easy shove puts it back down. Even as fast as it is to release the manual seat, my kids often just leap over the center console or fold down the seat and quickly crawl over the second row seat back. They don't want to spend the extra 1 second it takes to release the seat. As such, I think a much slower electrical mechanism would never get used, at least by my kids. And for folding the second row seat with either manual or power, you need to make sure the headrests are down in a lower setting or the seat won't have room to fold. This might be the slowest part of access if you ever put the second row headrests up to one of the higher settings.

hope this was helpful thank you

The seats settle and you need to sit in the seat and recline, this will allow you to release it and fold it forward.

u need to push the seat BACK first while holding down the lever, then push it all the way forward

if that doesnt help The return spring is probably dislodged or worse, broken and you may need to get a new housing.

The rails are slotted on the 2008 TX. The 2007
FS has a boxed rail with no slot. Check if Thule or others can use the
    slot for mounting.

u can also refer the following website for any guidance....

Seats - Third Row
The third row seat:
  • is three-passenger seat.
  • a 60/40 bench seat.
  • folds down for more cargo area.
  • has optional power fold down seats.
Third Row Power-Fold Seat
CAUTION: To prevent possible damage to the third row seat or the safety belts, make sure that the safety belts are not fastened when moving the seat to the load floor position.
CAUTION: Make sure that no objects such as books, purses or briefcases are on the floor in front of the third row seats or on the seat cushion before lowering the backrest(s).
The third row power-fold seat consists of the following electrical components:
  • right third row seat relay.
  • left third row seat relay.
  • right power-fold seat motor.
  • left power-fold seat motor.
  • right front third row seat switch (if equipped).
  • left front third row seat switch (if equipped).
  • right rear third row seat switch.
  • left rear third row seat switch.
For the third row power-fold seat to operate, a shared ground is supplied by the body security module (BSM) to both of the power-fold seat relays, enabling the seats to then be moved by pressing one of the third row power-fold seat switches. The third row power-fold seat operates only when the vehicle is in PARK and the liftgate glass, liftgate door or any entry door must be open.
The third row power-fold seat motors transfer movement to a drive gear assembly to raise and lower the seat backrest. The power-fold seat motors rotate a short drive cable which is connected to the drive gear assembly.
The relay's are located in Aux. relay box #2

Ford Expedition seat won t fold down

My ford had same problem. I resolved it as follows:

on the side of the seat that has the cable handle that isn't working remove the INSIDE plastic covering. This will just pull off. This is thee plastic piece underneath the seat. Once this is done you have access to the lever that the cable pulls against. My was frozen stuck. I took a long screwdriver and placed it against the top of the lever and struck the end with a hammer. This unseized the lever. At this point the seat could be pulled up but pulling on cable. I then sprayed wd40 on lever joint.

How do you remove the rear seat out of a 2001 Ford Excursion

If you are talking about the third row seat, the first step is to fold the seat down. Pull the lever behind the passenger side of the third row seat and fold the seat down. Then, from the cargo area, raise the bar located directly behind the third row seat and lift the seat forward. The seat should now be detached from the car and can be removed. When you reinstall the seat, be sure to secure the seat properly so passengers do not get injured in a sudden vehicle maneuver. This should help you to fix your problem. 2007 Tahoe 3rd row right seat will not fold

I solved the problem by spraying WD40 into the front side of the seat support that was sticking. This support has a rubber closure to protect the mechanics of the seat. After spraying a generous amount of WD40, I waited about 5 minutes and tried the lever to fold the seat. It worked and still does.

Driver side second row seat will not fold down. When pulling the release catch the seat does not release . I can not fold the seat flat to carry a large load in the rear of the vehicle.

I had the same problem. The dealer wanted $400 to replace the latch. I didn't wnat to pay that much so I looked at it and found that the release strap was twisted and jammed in the mechanism. Here's how I fixed it.

I removed the screw from the lever and removed the lever. I pulled apart the plastic housing. It does not come apart all the way but enough to work on it. Pull the release strap that comes out of the back and pull it clear of the mechanism and straighten it out. slip the lever back on and the seat should fold. Fold it up all the way to make it easier to reassemble. Pull the lever back off and slip the release strap back into the slot and make sure it is not twisted or kinked. Snap the housing back together, put the lever back on, and screw it in. Test it and it should work fine. Hope this helps,
