My 2004 Dodge Neon is making loud noise when in any gear but park even when I'm not pressing the gas and is at a stand still. My shade tree mechanic gave it a once over and immediately said front driveshaft axle is the culprit. I would like to have a "virtual" 2nd opinion since money doesn't hv the value to others as it does to u when its not theirs. I can't afford to fix my cad one time let alone twice or the normal "fml" 3rd so i really need some educated/experienced feedback PLEASE!! Eternally greatful..RHIANNON

Does it only make the noise when moving or just when you put it in gear with the shifter-Denny

When in gear...any gear except park. There is no engine stall or transmission slip(prior to said incident). I had been hearing a clicking TICK TICK TICK on driver side when turning but I'm ever the procrastinator so i never checked it. Its almost as if something is stuck ir jammed and is preventing the driveshaft from turning. Ty for ur quick response!! RHIANNON

SOURCE: 2004 dodge interprid transmission gears

Chances are your engine light is on too. Your actually in 2nd right now, this is called limp mode. It's built into your cars computer to avoid catastrophic failure when a sensor or other issue arrises. You should go imediately to your dealer and have them read the codes and provide you with a proper estimate. My best guess at this time would be a speed sensor.

I had the same problem with a Saturn I had and I would check the motor mount. If its coming loose it can damage a lot of other things costing more than what you would need.

2004 Dodge Neon with overdrive auromatic transmission, gear posselector is in park but transmission still in gear?

ok first check cable to transmission to make sure it is properly adjusted, Does it lock into park ? (ie does the parking cog engage and hold the car from moving) If the park cog does engage the I suggest rebuilding the transmission as the band inside the transmission may be worn and welded to the drum.

I was driving 40 mph and I heard something that sounded like a bolt hitting the street from off of my car and a loud sound was coming from under the front end of my 2002 dodge neon. When my car is rolling...

Hi, the problem is either a wheel bearing or driveshaft joint. You will need a mechanic to repair the car, as these repairs require experience and special tools. To verify the problem, you can get under the front of the car and grab the half-shafts--there is one on each side going to the middle of the wheel hub. Pull the shaft up/down or side to side. There should be no movement at all. If there is movement, you are holding the bad shaft. A mechanic can tell if the problem is with the shaft itself or the bearing in the hub. Please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

2003 dodge neon engine noise, sounds like a diseal truck

If you mean it is really loud, you have a major exhaust leak. Did this start suddenly? Sometimes an exhaust problem is caused by hitting something underneath the car, like running over a speed bump or parking lot curb. Listen under the hood, then under the body of the car. You should be able to locate the source of the noise if it is an exhaust leak. You will probably have to get a service mechanic to fix it as it often requires welding.

Why does my neon make a loud noise id rive, after

From your description it certainly sounds like a bearing but since you've changed it I would look at the tire for any chopping or cupping as this will cause a noise that is speed related as well. To verify a wheel bearing as you drive the car carefully weave from one side of the lane to the other. A wheel bearing will change pitch as you change the load on it and usually the bearing that is quiet to the left is the right bearing that is bad and vise versa.
