Ford Fiesta Encore 1996, 1.3. brake problem

Ford Fiesta Encore 1996, 1.3. Car running normall with no problems, however today I started the car and drove down the road and as I approached the junction I noticed the brakes were very unresponsive. Fortunately I was not driving too fast and by slamming hard on the brakes the car stopped eventually, but only after quite a few feet. Any ideas? Thanks.

If the pedal is verry hard to push then you have lost vacum to the brake booster or the booster has gone bad.

After starting transmission won't move out of park

It sounds like if this is a car with the brake interlock, meaning the car will not shift from park unless the brake is pressed, there is a malfunction there, some are electronic and it may not be getting power to it especially if there are other warning lights on the dash. It would help if you could give more details, like which lights are on. Most cars with a mechanical interlock will have a cable you can adjust either at the brake cable or at the shifter.

Ive got a ford fiester 1996 n reg and my hand break is not stoping me if im parked on a hill, do i need to ghange the break flud ?

no. you need to tighten the hand brake cable, or if the is tightened to the max already then you need to replace it with a new one.

brake fluid low will be indicated with alight when the car is switched on (the same light that is one when the handbrake is applied will stay on when the hand brake is released.

Anyways, the hand brake is cable operated. This is normal as with time the steel cable stretches since it is put under enormous stresses when engaged.
