Hey Arnold,
First, you need to get a precut set of wires and a set of new spark plugs. It will be proficient to change one wire and one spark plug at a time... this will prevent a mix-up and cross-up of wires.. You will know which size spark plug wrench when you get the new plugs.. They will be either 5/8" or 18mm or 13/16". Take your time and you can do this!!!
I have been told by mechanics and 2 auto stores that the gap should be .043. I don't know where people are getting .060. but my plugs are .043 and my trailblazer does not misfire or run poorly. Also, check the gap always, even if it's pre gapped because the handling of spark plugs could cause a change in gap. IE the plug bouncing in the box, vibration, etc.
If you're replacing the spark plugs in your car
engine, you'll need to set the gap before reseating the
spark plug. The gap is the distance electricity arcs between the ground
electrode and center electrode. The gap must be set correctly to ensure
maximum performance. Here's how to set the gap of a spark plug.
Remove the spark plug wires. Use a socket wrench to remove the spark plugs from their chambers.
Clean the spark plug if you are not replacing it with a new one. Remove all dirt and debris from the spark plug.
Check the owner's manual for your car (or any appliance with spark plugs) to find out the recommended gap setting.
Use a gap tool to check the gap of the spark plug. Slip the
tool between the ground electrode and center electrode. The gap tool
should fit snugly at the recommended gap width indicated on the tool.
Push the tool between the electrodes a few times to ensure
proper gap. If the gap is too wide, push the ground electrode firmly
against a flat surface to narrow the gap and then check again with the
gap tool.
Repeat Step 5 as necessary until you reach the correct gap. Reseat the spark plug and reattach the spark plug wires
Hello mfriesner71; my name is Roger and I will answer for you. The correct plug gap is 0.027 to 0.031.in. Any gap between these will work fine. Just make sure they all gap the same.
