Speedometer quit working

2000 volkswagen golf was driven over speed bump couple days ago and the speedometer quit working. Shop fixed the non-working speedometer a few month back and said it was the ground wire on the transmission. I looked yesterday and could not find this ground wire they are referring to. Any idea where to look for this wire?

Thank you.

What I'm looking for is this ground wire attached to the transmission to see if the going over the speed bump may have jarred it loose.

I really doubt that is the problem. You are grasping at straws, once agin run the trouble codes.

go to the dealer and have the trouble codes run, u may have damaged the speed sensor on the transmission case or the wirng to it.

It's in a heat protective insulating bag with a snap button on top of the differential housing.

Hi there, I have a VW Golf GTI 2000 model.. and...

You'll probaly need a new speedo head. Just remember to record your original mileage to the new speedo you'll need to hook up a VAG 1552 scan tool and set it up. NOTE: It has to be below 100mi or else it will permanently lock up and unable to record your original mileage.
