Oil diesel engine

Good day, Is it true that in order to check KIA SPORTAGE diesel engine's oil level necessary? 1. To warm up engine till the operating temperature, 2. To wait about 5 minutes, 3. To check the level after that only. Respectfully, Eimantas

All engine oil checks are done with the engine at proper operating temp. All fluids expand when heated.

SOURCE: Low oil pressure light goes on until car warms up. Oil level is good

The oil pressure sending unit has gone bad. I sending unit is just above the oil filter and you can get to it from the top. When you face the Engine look down towards the oil filter, the oil pressure sending unit is just above that and it looks like a cylinder with two wires coming from it. If you don't see it, it's right between the exhaust manifold and oil filter.
If you go to Auto Zone or Parts Source, they'll have the oil pressure sending unit and the step by step instructions, When installing the new sensor. Do not use teflon tape or any sealant, the sensor is tapered and need's the good ground from the engine to give you right readings.
Good luck and hope this helps.

SOURCE: 2007 KIA Sportage check engine light just came on and now stays on all fluid levels are good

Had a similar problem and took it to the dealer - it is a defect which is common to a range of Kia Sportage. Eventually, the engine will not start.
The manufacturer paid for an engine replacement.

SOURCE: Starting problems Kia Sportage

Its too cold ... get a block heater. At least get an under hood heater, even an old electric blanket will work ... just don't forget to remove it before starting the engine.

You also might look into holding the preheaters on longer.

SOURCE: 2006 Kia Sorento 4X4, Diesel. Starts right up

i would check all the basics like spark plugs and check for vacuum leaks around the intake manifold. With a can of 2+2 carb cleaner while engine is running --if idle goes up or down that is were your leak is--
check egr too, Lee

My kia sportage 2006 diesel have code p 1187 don't have power

One of the first things I do when I get a new-to-me vehicle is to get a Chiltons/Haynes repair manual for that make/model/year. These repair manuals have the codes, troubleshooting guides, and even tell you when you may well be in over your head. And yes, I keep the manual when I get rid of the car. You never know if you may well buy another. I have Kia repair manuals, but they are for Sephia/Spectra. And to my knowledge these sedans did not come with a diesel engine. I didn't even know the Sportage could be ordered with this powerplant. Just checked my books. Neither address diesel powered Kias. You will have to find a repair manual the specifically addresses Kia Sportages with the diesel engine.

Engine seems to be turning over slowly and will not start.

First things first, double check your oil level to be safe. If this is good, remove the battery and have it load testes at your nearest auto parts store. Repalce as necessary. Let me know if you need further assistance.

My kia sportage diesel is puffing blue smoke.

Nothing to fix friend. See, in diesel, when cold, there is an electric plunger on the throttle that speeds the idle a bit till warm up. Connected to that same wire is the cold start/temperature sensor. When cold/cool this sensor will excite the plunger to speed the idle, and put more fuel into the engine making the smoke you see, until warm up is reached and the sensor shuts down. You really don't have a repair needed friend.

Very high diesel consumption 1:8.5km

Diesels you have to change the fuel and oil filter religiously in order to maintain the proper mileage and engine wear.

Could you please tell me how much oil dose the engine take Cheers Neil 1997 Kia sportage 2lt petrol

If it is a four cylinder it'll take about 4 to 4 1/2 quarts. Best thing to do is get 5 quarts, add three to it (if empty) and let sit for 10-15 minutes to let oil drain into pan. Check level. If it is not full slowly add about 1/4 of a quart or less (if necessary) and reapeat until full.

Or call or visit a local parts dealer and they can look it up on their computer for you and let you know exactly how much.

Hope this is helpful.

Thank you,
