First check the filters... There is a high pressure filter near the fuel distributor and a strainer in the tank... Connect a fuel pressure gauge at the fuel distributor... there are 2 test ports for this. One is "system" pressure the other is "control" pressure... you want the "system" port...if no (or very low) pressure then I would suspect the fuel distributor itself... If pressure is good and still no spray from the injectors then either the fuel is very dirty and has clogged the injectors (not very likely except in extreme cases of neglect) or the injectors aren't getting a signal (or an intermittent signal, more likely) from the injection control unit. If none of this helps you will need to get the Bentley manual and follow the troubleshooting steps...;-)

HEY THERE. MY 1986 GOLF 2 GTI DRIVES FINE FOR A FEW DAYS AND SUDDENLY STARTS MISFIRING AND THEN CUTS OUT.AFTER THAT IT WILL START WITH DIFFICULTY AND NOT REV UP...PLEASE HELP ME AS I HAVE REPLACED THE FUEL...

Did you check timing 6*btdc? Could be bad fuel distributor. Misfire is either a problem with fuel delivery or ignition (spark). If you can't find or fix the problem you'll ruin your catalytic converter.

Helloo roush....you are correct in figuring that it is the fuel filter. Do change the fuel filter, a small cost item, and see if that solves it for u. Joe

Difficulty in cold starting golf MKII 1988

If it is the EFi model (electronic fuel injection) then change the coolant temp sensor

If it is the slightly earlier Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical injection it could be either the warm up valve or the 5th injector (Blue coloured part on the end of the fuel rail)

Problems with gear box

Hi

If the clutch feels ok and isn't biting right at the bottom or right at the top then it sounds like its time for a recon or 2nd hand gearbox to be fitted.

I recently fitted a 2nd gearbox to a seat ibiza GTi which actually has the 2.0 Golf engine fitted to it and it wasn't too bad at all, but it is adviseable to fit a clutch kit whilst the box is off.

Very best regards

Geordie
