Andersonltam: OOPS! Don'tfeel bad it's a common problem. First we have to get you oriented in front of the vehicle and give you some reference points so that we are talking apples and apples OK?
Standing directly in front of you vehicle, hood up and looking at the motor, the engine sits "Transversely" (SIDE WAYS") HMM they keep doing that!
Starting with the cylinders on the front side of the motor closest to the radiator, they are
numbered as followed. To your left is #2 cylinder, the center is # 4 and the right is # 6
So the layout is even on one side and odd on the other.
On the back side you have the same configuration: # 1 cylinder is to your left, # 3 is in the center and # 5 is on the right.
back of car
(1) (3) (5)
2
to #1 cyl > 1 3 <(Dist cap)
6 4
5
( 2) (4) (6)
Front of Car

This illustration was a close as I could get using what I had, but I think you have a 99.9%
chance of figuring it out...... If you don't I'll be watching... Let me know how I did......

Sorry about the illustration, It didn't all come out as it had been drawn .

    HOWEVER, (1) (3) (5)

    (2) (4) (6) are correct!

The distributor is laid out to where it is located os the back side of the motor, between the # 6 and #5

cylinders splitting the "V" You have 6 wires which plug into 6 spots in the top of the distributor cap.

The # 1 location is closest to the intake manifold (dead center, not close to # 5 or close to # 6)

The other terminals the wires plug into aren't as close to the intake manifold.

So, starting with connecting the # 1 wire to the Distributor cap at the location I described and to the # 1 cylinder as laid out in my diagram, the firing order is 1 2 3 4 5 6... the distributor rotor turns in a clockwise direction. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping this revision won't be distorted when I post it...HERE GOES!

I need to replace a coil pack on my 2000 Olds Silhouette. I know I have to rotate the engine. But am unsure on how to do it correctly.

you do not have to rotate the engine to change the coil packs. just turn the van off and unplug the coil pack un bolt it and pull the spark plug wires off

How to change te spark plugs

Hi: If this is your 1st time to Change your Spark Plugs, I recommend that you First of All Get the Correct Spark Plugs from your Auto Parts Store, Then Locate your Spark Plug Wires which run from your Distributor Cap to your Spark Plugs. If you have a V-8 There will be 8 if you Have a V-6 Then You'll have six Spark Plug Wires and 1- COIL Wire which is located in the Center of your Distributor Cap to your Coil. It is the Shortes Wire.I Recommend you ONLY do 1-Spark Plug at a Time, This will Prevent you from getting any of your wires Crossed which will Cause your Engine to Run Rough ,Back Fire or Not even Start,So just Pull off 1-Wire From Spark Plug and one Wire From Your Distributor Cap, You'll Need a Spark Plug Socket Probally 5/8th in. And a Ratchet and 2- Different Size Extensions to beable to reackh all your Spark PlugsNOTE!! Buy you a Spark Plug Wire Tool there not very Expensive but well worth it,This was you Can Pull the Wires with out Damaging Your Wires. And you Might Want to Put NEW Spark Plug Wires On as well, If So and I do Recommend This. And Again Just do 1- Wire and Plug At a Time So you'll know you Have Not Crossed any Wires. Hope This Helps You ,Please Respond by Voting on This Problem And How it Helped You. Thanks From WYOCWBOY

Install the spark plug wire(s) to the retaining clips.

Install the spark plug wire(s) (2, 4 and 6) to the engine left side spark plug(s).

Install the spark plug wire(s) to the retaining clips.

You can get a copy of the service manual from Promanuals.net for cheap.

NO SPARK AT PLUGS

Its probably the electrical part under the ignition coils follow your spark plug wires to the back of your firewall and remove both ignition coils and there is an small electrical plate that needs to be replaced and you should get your vehicle running because I had the same problem
