Hybrid OAT coolants, also known as HOAT antifreeze or G-05 antifreeze. This formulation also uses organic acids, but not 2-EHA (different organic acids are used). Hybrid OAT coolants add a small dose of silicates to provide quick-acting protection for aluminum surfaces. Hybrid OAT coolants are currently used by many European vehicle manufacturers as well as Ford and Chrysler.
As HOAT antifreeze ages, however, some of the silicates may drop out of solution. These particles can have an abrasive effect as they circulate in the cooling system, accelerating wear on water pump seals and plastic impellers, plastic radiator end tanks, or inside metal heater cores with sharply curved tubes. To avoid these kinds of problems, most HOAT-based antifreezes use stabilizers to keep the silicates in solution, and they contain only a small amount of silicates. HOAT-based antifreezes that claim to be "low silicate" formulas should meet the ASTM D6210 standard (which is a requirement for most late model diesel engines).
Like-OAT-based antifreezes, HOAT-based antifreezes also have a claimed service life of 5 years or 100,000 to 150,000 miles -- which ever comes first.

SOURCE: after I added coolant to 91 chevy lumina the low

When filling the coolant system you need to have the car running with radiator cap off and you can also burp the coolant hose while filling the system to remove any air. The system may be full for a while until thermostat opens and sucks the coolant out of radiator which is the perfect time to add more to top it off.

Disconnecting your negative battery cable for 10 minutes will reset the computer and shut off the light.

, I bought an Oldsmobile Achieva 1996 and wanted to know what kind (color) of coolant do I use?

should be a sticker near the overflow bottle, if it says dexcool you need the orange stuff.
you will need to mix it 50/50 precisely before adding to car.
for the best results use distilled water for the mix.

if there is no dexcool sticker you can run the 50/50 green such as prestone extended life

I replaced the thermostat, the car still over heats and the heater still does'nt blow heat. the sticker under the hood says there is a special way to add coolant is there? I dont have a services...

It's probably air bound. In my 51 years of working on cars I've never heard of a special way to add coolant.
I just put some in the radiator or the container, start the engine, wait for the thermostat to open, then fill it, leave the cap off so it won't get air bound while it's running.
If there is a bleeder valve on top of the thermostat housing, open that until there is a steady stream of coolant coming out, then close it and refill system.
If it still over heats, you might have a clogged radiator.

Temperature light came on 2002 VW Passat wagon backing out of garage today, slight burning smell. Returned after 2 miles. Have experienced this smell on and off since oil & filter change several weeks...

You can see the coolant level by looking through the opaque round coolant reservoir. It should be just over the middle. There's a line indication proper level. Orange Dexcool meets the VW specification and is generally available. The rear coolant flange can warp and seep over time and leaks onto hot parts. That's probably why you smell it.

My 1991 buick lesabre this morning showed the coolant temperature light on the dashboard when i opened my hood steam was visibly coming off the engine block...i waited 30 minutes then opened the radiator...

It's either the radiator is blocked and needs to be flushed or changed,or the thermostat (the temperature regulator) is blocked and needs to be changed.

Coolant Temp Sensor

The sensor is located on the drivers side engine block...although you can see if from looking from the top of the engine, you would have to get under the vehicle and look up to replace it. Be aware that it takes a special tool to unscrew the old one and screw in the replacement.
