1985 Ford Econoline rv, has two tanks, rear tank has some sort of shut off switch I am told so that the generator does not use the last of the fuel in the tank. Since the RV does not have a generator that runs off fuel I would like to get full capacity out of the rear tank because now i cant use the tank at all even though it is full. The mechanism has become faulty. Any one know how to bypass or get rid of this shut off device?? Thanks

You would need to rewire the electronics. and make a switch to the dash area. so it can be opened. the valve is magnetic. so rewire a single wire switch ground live fuse switch to the original wiring ton the magnetic switch . you can use the shell as neutral and just feed wire to ignition and then fuse then to a switch. and earth wire to switch to make a circuit, use a 5amp fuse.

Can't use front tank. i fill the rear tank, front tank eventually fills up. switch to front tank, it'll run for about 5 minutes then stall. then i switch to rear...fine. why is the front tank filling up...

Ok sounds like a electrical problem being an 89 its fuel injected eather 5.0 or 5.8 each tank has its own fuel pump and sending unit a dashboard switch, relay, fuse and switching motor. check your fuel line from the front tank it could be clogged. check for 12v pwr. to the front pump the sending unit will require 4V but not much. as soon as the fuel rail pressureizes the ECM shuts the pump off using the relay. Usually the tank switch goes bad first.

Where is the fuel pump for a 1985 Econoline 350 motohome located?

If you have dual tanks they each have one in it. There may also be one on frame rail which pushes fuel via the tank switch.

Either the fuel line from the front tank to the switching valve is plugged or kinked, or the valve is not moving all the way to that tank (if electrically switched). Pull the hose (from that tank) off at the valve--do you get good fuel flow? If the front tank is lower than the valve, try switching the fuel lines from the two tanks at the valve, and set the switch for the rear tank. If it now runs, clean the valve or replace it.

I have an 85 Ford E350 chassis motorhome that won't switch to the rear gas tank. When the you flip the selector switch at the dash, you can hear a click from the transfer switch on the frame. The rear tank...

You should be able to hear the pump in the tank running. If you don't check the fuel pump relay. If you hear the pump running then the line/filter could be plugged. The white relay is the tank selector relay, the green relay is the fuel pump relay. If the green relay is bad you will have a bad time getting the replacement. The new relays from the dealer and parts stores are all 5 pin. The green relay is a 4 pin.

Also your genset probably has a pump that pulls from that tank on its own.
