Remove the trim from the wiper arm so it is possible to see the retaining nut and spindle. Operate the wipers and check if the spindle and nut are moving. If yes then the nut is loose or the wiper arm needs replacing.

If not the wiper linkage has probably become disconnected. This often indicates the linkage is worn or the wipers have been started while the blades are frozen to the windscreen.

In the latter case the wiper linkage will have to be examined which is sometimes fairly simple and sometimes complex and awkward needing the removal of quite a lot of bodyfittings.
