My car is overheating and I have changed the coolent. But when I turn on the defrost on high heat the only thing blowing out was very cold air. What could be wrong and how do I fix it?

I have already changed the water pump bearing about 6 months ago but could the pump itself still be bad? Is there any other way I would know if it was or not?

  • notacargal Mar 27, 2009

Ok thank you. I think I have to go to auto zone in the morning and find a book.

Don't have a diagram for yours but any large parts store has decent manuals for about$20 that will help a lot! Need any further info, just ask!! Don't change water pump unless bearing is loose or it's leaking. Your thermostat is likely a 195 degree unit.

Pump either works or it dosent...if the shaft is turning the impeller its working unless somehow you managed to get the belt on incorrectly and you are turning it backwards (really unlikely)

You will fint that the book will help you with lots of stuff besides thermostat location & removal. If you want to keep vehicle for any amount of time it will pay for itself !!!!

Changed thermo sat was bleeding out of air and coolent and then it stop bleeding out coolent and temp gage runs over half way and its blowing out cold air why

There is still air in your cooling system and it is either in the heater core or blocking it. Turn the heater on max. heat and the fan on high and start the car and re-bleed the air from the system. It may take a while but you will get hot air from the heater and by then the air should be out of the system. Hope this helps.

Would the heater control valve malfunctioning make the engine overheat blowing hot air out the heater one moment, then not blowing the hot air, temp gage spikes 225 plus. The motor takes awhile to heat up...

Heater control valve malfunction will not cause engine to overheat unless coolant is leaking externally...Overheating going down the road can be the result of a few different things...Partly clogged radiator...Insufficient air flow due to possible fan problem...External coolant leak...Make sure fans are operting properly and have cooling system pressure tested for leaks...Gaining and losing heat on the inside of the vehicle usually means system is low on coolant but you must find out where coolant is going

Heat blowing Cold when in drive. When in Park, it is warm

have you chg. any thing lately like thermostate? added any coolent to system? if not, thermostate could be stuck in the open position. if stuck open, setting still, it will throw heat, but moving coolent flows to fast and does not get a chance to get hot. if you did chg. thermostate it could have a air pocket in the system. and also adding coolent can create an air pockets too. you will know this when your traveling down the road and temp guage fluctuates up and down. witch means air in system.
