My speedometer is not reading my speed! My accelaration and the power to go is completely there. If I'm on the freeway or parked, gauge says that I'm still going 25 mph. The gauge does move, but is FAR from accurate. Please help with suggestions to the cause and how to fix. :)

If the odometer is correct, the problem is in the speedometer head. If the odometer is also not accurate, it may be the speed sensor in the transmission.

VSS - vehicle speed sensor problem maybe . Without test this is just a guess . Having a scanner an checking for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes would be the first step in the diagnostic process . Know how the speedometer gets it's info. would be good too.
Speedometer Gauge The hybrid electronic instrument cluster (HEC) (10849) receives the vehicle speed signal from the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) over the standard corporate protocol (SCP) network and displays it on the speedometer gauge. If the instrument cluster receives no vehicle speed signal after one second, the speedometer defaults to 0.0 km/h (0.0 mph).

Hello: To correct this condition you will have to replace the cluster. After replacement the mileage and engine hours will have to be reset then the cluster will have to be programmed to your truck.

Electrical Problem with speed gauge, RPM and dash board lignts.

That is a manufacturing defect associated with your instrument cluster. My local dealer replaced my entire instrument cluster for free (truck was out of warranty) when my speedometer showed 100 mph in a parking lot and my oil pressure gauge read 0.

Transmission speedometer problem

This all can be caused by a defective Vehicle Speed sensor, also called a VSS, also run a test on the computer to see if any codes are in memory that will help to sort this problem out.

I have a 1991 buick park ave ultra

your car is suffering from a faulty speed sensor. it works by using a signal generator in the transmission that creates an electrical signal in relationship to vehicle speed. This information is processed by the vehicle’s computer for engine and transmission management and provides the signal for the body computer that controls the speedometer. If the speed sensor itself fails then this might be the reason behind your problems. in addition, another cause of this may be that harness my be loose connecting to the transmission or behind the speedometer. there are multiple pins connecting behind the speedometer, and sometimes when one of those pins are not properly connected it gives a problem like yours.
