2002 pontiac sunfire replacing fuel pump

Is the fuel pump located in the gas tank or outside the tank?
Is it hard to get to? I can do basic car replacements like fuel filters, alternators, stuff like that...could I do this or should I get a real mechanic to replace it? I've seen just the fuel pump and I've seen fuel pumps with more attachments with it, which one should I get to replace mine with? any info will be greatly appreciated..
thanks

The fuel pump is inside the gas tank inside the sending unit, its not a easy job to do at home but is possible to do as long as you have know how and the tools to do it.

2002 Sunfire with 2.2 ECOTEC Car acted like it ran out of gas. Would crank, run roughly a few seconds, then again acted like it ran out of gas. The next day and the next 3 days it has performed...

have the fuel pressure and volume tested with a gage.this sounds and acts like a fuel pump problem.check the fuel filter as well and replace anyways.when it won`t start but cranks can you hear the fuel pump running.listen at the fuel filler neck with the gas cap off.if you can`t listen under the car at the fuel tank you should hear it running/if not hit the gas tank and if the car starts then the pump needs replacing.you should check to make sure you are getting spark at the spark plugs to eliminate an ignition problem but i think its fuel.

How to remove gas from the gas tank to replace fuel pump on 05 pontiac sunfire

Most garages uses a pump. They insert a small hose where you put the gas in at the gas cap and feed it down to about the bottom of the tank, connect it to a pump and pump the gas into another container. You might try and locate a hand pump.

Im having fuel pump issues. could you please tell me where the fuel pump is located on a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am SE

The fuelpump is located inside the gas tank, you will need to drop the tank to replace the pump, heres a picture of the pump and in goes in through the top of the tank, the fuelpump is called a fuelpump module because it comes complete with holder sending unit and all other parts as you will see in the picture, hope this helps, good luck.johnjohn2_17.jpg
