I have a 1999 kia sephia and my water pump went out I just need to know if water pump driven by the serpentine belt or timing belt?

The water pump is driven by the timing belt BUT you don't have to worry about it getting knocked out of time because the serpentine belt will keep it in line for you as it goes around the same pulley.

I have a 2001 KIA Sephia I've had within the last 2 months the timing belt replaced, the fuel filter, pump & relay switch replaced, alternator and a new battery put in and it seems like I'

This will need a hands on inspection by a qualified mechanic. i suggest the Kia dealership, but at a minimum it needs to go to a different shop than the one you've been taking it to as they seem to not know what they're doing.

The timing belt on my 99 kia sephia has apparently broken...is there any way to tell whether it damaged the pistons and valves before I spend money replacing the timing belt and water pump?

No there no way way of knowing without replacing the timing belt, cylinder compression test at this point would not work due to valve's open at wrong time, this engine is a INTERFERENCE ENGINE, but you might get luckly where it did not damage valve's it's happen here at my repair shop, also you don't have to replace the water pump, it is not timing belt driven water pump

Water pump

HELLO THERE, YOUR WATER PUMP IS UNDER YOUR TIMING BELT THAT IS ON THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE WHERE YOUR BELTS ARE. UNDER THE FRONT COVER(.HINT) IF YOU NEED A TIMING BELT CHANGED WHICH SHOULD BE CHANGED EVERY 80,000 MILES YOU CAN GET THE WATER PUMP INSTALLED FOR FREE THE MECHANIC IS ALREADY THERE ANYWAY.WHEN HE IS DOING THE TIMING BELT.

Drain engine coolant.

Remove timing belt (please make sure you know how to do this, otherwise, seek help from a certified mechanic) Remove tensioner and idler. f644145.jpg Remove water pump. dbfdc5c.jpg Remove any gasket fragments, dirt or oil from sealing surfaces. Install new gasket on water pump. To prevent dropping the gasket when installing, put sealant in gasket groove. But do not apply to sealing surfaces. Install water pump. Install tensioner, idler and timing belt. Fill engine coolant. Connect negative battery cable. Start engine and check for leaks. Regards, Jeep Brainy
