Look for a dislodged Air conditioning drain hose. This hose sometimes gets kicked off by a passengers foot. The hose is a jamb fit. It is typically black, about 1/2 in diameter.

SOURCE: During the rainy season, a puddle forms on the

Underneath the door there are drain holes that can get clogged with debris.
These holes are there to keep water from accumulating inside the door and normally drain to the outside by way of the scuff plate which protects the bottom of the entrance and is slanted toward the outside of the car.
When these holes get clogged the water inside the door looks for another escape.
Get a small screwdriver or something that will go into these holes and clean them out.
Do this periodically on ALL doors.
Also check to see that your door seals don't have a void (crack) that would allow water to come in.
Check both seals. on the door and on the body. Lubricate these before every winter with a light film of silicone grease. This keeps the seals from sticking and freezing together during cold weather. Sometimes these sticky seals tear themselves when you open the door......Good Luck....Ray

VW Passat 2.0 Diesel estate. Occasionally,my passenger side, foot well,is sopping wet. I've noticed water seeping from behind the dash, same side. And I have a slight oily smell inside the car although...

Could the liquid be coolant? If so, you likely have a broken heater core. Or... it could be condensate from the a/c evaporator is not exiting via the hose that is designed to take it out of the car (ever notice how a puddle forms under a car that has the a/c on?). If your car doesn't have the puddle, it's because a bug made a nest in that tube (or some other blockage) and the water is overflowing and coming into the cabin.

The only suggestion is to place the vehicle on
stands & remove the wheel to check out the issue

To speculate from the internet-- is just that.

To have something happen while you sleep
is odd,so I would be inclined to go with something
like an electronic parking brake issue,if that applies

Heater core repeatedly leaks, changed 3 time in past 3 months and still no solution

You should probably pressure test the cooling system and the radiator cap to make sure it's releasing properly at the correct pressure, and to identify where any leak may exist. I would suggest that you bypass the heater core for the test first, then test once it's repaired & reconnected.

I've heard of this before due to a leaking headgasket, or small crack in the head/block as well as a bad radiator cap that won't release at the correct PSI.
