I have a 1999 ford escort 2.0 DOHC and it will crank but wont start...it had a new fuel pump put in it and ive put a cam position sensor on it and a battery..its gettin fire and its blue spark but still no start..checked compression and all cylinders read 80 to 90 psi..idk what the compression is supposed to be but it seemed low... If anyone knows somthing that i dont please let me know..email me at [email protected]..
Re: I have a 1999 ford escort 2.0 DOHC and it will crank...
Compression is too low, it sounds like there is a head gasket failure. The compression should be above 100 psi as a minimum. Normally should be in the 120-170psi range.

You did not say anything about the fuel system. Have you checked the fuel pressure ? Has the fuel filter been replaced this year ? Is the check engine light on when the engine is running ? Could be low fuel pressure or a faulty throttle position sensor among other things.
I'm having excatly same problem, found this sequence to ge the car running again..turn off ign, unplug cam position sensor, crank for 2 seconds, connect cam shaft sensor, crank again and it starts like that...
The cam sensor is located at the front right front side of the cylinter head, while you are facing the engine.---------- The crank position sensor located below the pcv valve that is located on block not the valve cover, its below the exhaust manifold. You will have to remove the catalytic converter to see the exact view of both the sensors. The camshaft sensor is on the head. The crankshaft sensor is in the block, just below the exhaust manifold.------------Thanks.Helpmech.
Check all fuses first. Then have someone listen near the back wheel when you first turn the key to "on" they should hear a hum if the fuel pump is working. If not, you will need a pressure tester for the fuel system to check for pressure at the test port near the engine. If OK, check for spark and injector pulse (you'll need noid lights for the injectors). If fuel pressure is low or none, you need a pump (don't replace till you check to see if it's getting power). If no spark or injector pulse, you probably need a Crank Position Sensor.
DOES IT HAVE POWER/ A GOOD BATTERY? IF SO CHECK & SEE IF IT IS GETTING FIRE OUT FROM THE COIL PACKS,THE QUICKEST WAY TO SEE IF IT IS FIRE OR A FUEL PROBLEM IS SPRAY A LITTLE STARTING FLUID IN THE THROTTLE BODY,& IF IT CRANKS & THEN CUTS RIGHT BACK OFF ITS A FUEL PROBLEM,FUEL PUMP FUSE,FUEL PUMP RELAY,OR FUEL PUMP,& OR FUEL FILTER, IF ITS NOT GETTING FIRE IT COULD BE A CRANK SENSOR, A CAM POSITION SENSOR,COIL PACK(S) OR A FUSE OR RELAY.
There is no marks. Ford has a two piece special tool for lining up the cams and the crank. One tool slides in the back of the cams and the other is a peg that is put into a hole on the side of the block that allows the crank to turn until it hits the flat on a weight of the crank.Crank peg# 303-574 and the cam tool # 303-465. You can use these to order them from Rotunda or OTC. Good Luck. PS: these tools are used because the cam sprockets are no longer keyed in position. The procedure is not any harder than the other style, but I suggest not trying it without the tools.
make sure to have a fuel pressure test done to it, it must to have a least 35 psi of pressure, also see if car is equiped with map sensor if it does unplug sensor and try to start the car, if start replace map sensor
