Just making sure but you grounded the end of the spark plug (threads should have a path to the engine block or negative terminal on battery.

from there if you still have no spark it is the plug, the wire, or the coil

(to check the coil ohm it with a voltmeter ($3 at harbor fright) against the other coils to make sure it has the same value.

Guessing this is not the problem though as if it were the car would just run rough

Any more info would be helpful

Replace spark plugs as they might have been worn and check the specific gravity of the battery checked. The ignition coil also may be causing the problem.

well if ur not getting spark and u changed all of the ignition components lets think about the computer in order for the ignition to work you have crankshaft position sensor that fires the fuel injectors and the spark change that and if still nothing then change the camshaft postion sensor that sensor tells the computer that the 1 piston has came all the way up and it tells the crankshaft sensor to do its thing

1989 f-250 5.0 engine cranks but won't start

  1. The ignition system on your 5.0L uses a distributor type system and will include the following components:
    1. Ignition control module (ICM). Depending on the year of your specific Ford, it'll have a inner-fender mounted ignition control module or a distributor mounted ignition control module. hot sure which you have.
    2. Ignition coil. you replaced it.
    3. PIP (Profile Ignition Pickup) sensor. This is Ford's name for the crank sensor and is mounted inside the distributor. The most common name for this component is the pick up coil.
    4. Distributor cap and rotor. you replaced
    5. Spark plug wires. you replaced.
  2. The thing to keep in mind about the ignition system is that all engine cylinders must get spark and the one thing that will stop the ignition system from creating spark on a wholesale scale is a BAD crank sensor.Have you pulled a plug then using some insulated pliers grounded it to the vehicle and turned it over to see if you have spark, that'll tell you alot.takes two people of course.Best of luck and hope this helps.
