Sounds like you need a new gear box or you can get your old one reconditioned at a gearbox specialist. i think your ploblem occourd because you may of had no gearbox oil inside the gearbox

another factor that could affect your problem is the hydrolic fluid. there is a valve body inside the gearbox which controlls the gears. so lets say the vavle that controlls first gear dont open then the hydrolic fluid wont activate first gear. i think when u revv the engine it is increasing the hydrolic pressure which is aiding the vavle to open. the problem could be in the valve controll modual.

i know these have a common problem with the spindles from the gearbox locating into flyheel for corroding badly and seizing up sounds if you need new spindle to solve this problem also think you are catching it a early stage suggest getting this looked at.

Check the transmission fluid. If the fluid gets too low, then the transmission will not go into gear. More than likely the gearbox is okay. But if you are full of fluid, then the clutches might need replaced in the transmission.
