SOURCE: i need the correct firing order diagram for a 1982

The firing order is ( 1 - 3 - 7 - 2 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 8 )

The distributor rotor turns COUNTERCLOCKWISE

The marked # 1 position on the distrubutor cap faces to the REAR and slightly towards the drivers side

The engine cylinders / spark plug locations are numbered :

firewall

4 - 8

3 - 7

2 - 6

1 - 5

front

If someone has altered the disstributer, pull #1 plug, put finger over hole, turn engine over until compression on that cyl, line up timing marks (ball park only) and rotor will be pointing at the correct terminal for #1 cylinder plug wire connection, in the cap.

  • The EEC supplies power to the injectors. So you want to check the EEC relay and see if it is bad. This relay is brown and on the left side of the engine bay. The yellow wire and the red and green wire should have power to them. It's either the relay or a broken power feed wire in the harness. The red wire is the key wire to test for 12 volts with the key on.

1985 ford f150 300 6 cylinder with electronic ignition has spark to all 6 and fuel but won't start. All fuses are good and firing order is correct.

Get a testing light and connect it to the injector wires. You can have fuel pressure, but if the injectors do not open, it will not get fuel.

Test with starting fluid to see if fuel is the problem. If you have spark and no response after adding the starting fluid, its something else. Since the timing chain has nothing to do with the crankshaft sensor sending a signal as the crankshaft turns, the top half of the engine may not be turning to move the valves. Look in any breather holes in the valve cover to see if the tappets are moving.
