Have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical test gauge, if it is ok then replace the oil pressure sending unit located near the oil filter

It certainly could.
Also, at that age, the bearings and clearances could be getting slack so oil pressure would be expected to get lower.
If oil pressure is high when engine is cold, and low at idle when engine is hot, and high at higher RPM with hot engine, then it's more likely engine wear than bad oil pump.
Low oil pressure at high rpm with hot engine indicates failed oil pump. Best not to run when you have this condition.

running 0w oil in an old engine?
what i do us use a real oil pressure gauge to see truth.
the dash gauge is just a crude warning. nice but not instrument grade.
and all gauges, do that on a hot engine,
but not 5psi, my cars run 20psi min. hot...
what engine, what miles on it, what year.
all unknown.

1985 isuzu pup cold the pickup has oil psi 45 hot it has oil psi 10- 0psi ?


Well how recant is the reading been saying this i mean did it all of a sudden start reading low . 10 PSI is to low for a hot engine you could try replaceing the oil pressure sending unit but if this dosn't fix it then i would have to say you have a serious problem interinaly in the engine eighter valve or ring related or a big oil leak somewhere dose it burn oil?

How do I check and possibly replace the engine oil pressure sensor in a 2006 GMC Envoy Denali?


Oil Pressure Test Check for proper oil pressure at the sending unit passage with an externally mounted mechanical oil pressure gauge. A tachometer may also be needed, as some specifications may require running the engine at a specific RPM.
  1. While the engine is cold, locate and remove the oil pressure sending unit.
  2. Following the manufacturer's instructions, connect a mechanical oil pressure gauge and, if necessary, a tachometer to the engine.
  3. Start the engine and allow it to idle.
  4. Note and record the oil pressure reading when the engine is cold. The engine may need to run at a specified RPM, if so check the vehicle's specification.
  5. Run the engine until normal operating temperature is reached.
  6. Check the oil pressure reading again with the engine hot and record the value. Turn off the engine.
Compare the hot oil pressure reading to the specification. If the reading is low, check the cold pressure reading against the specification. If the cold pressure is well above the specification, and the hot reading was lower than the specification, the engine may have the wrong viscosity oil. Change the oil, making sure to use the proper grade and quantity, and then repeat the test.
Low oil pressure readings could be attributed to internal component wear, pump related problems, a low oil level, or oil viscosity that is too low. High oil pressure readings could be caused by an overfilled crankcase, too high of an oil viscosity or a faulty pressure relief valve.

The oil light comes on at times and goes off as the rpms go up. What can be done about the light?


Maybe your engine is idling too slowly, If the revs are below say 700rpm the low pressure warning light could come on especially when the engine is hot.. If the idle speed is ok try a heavier grade of oil in the engine. Next try a new oil pressure sensor. It's got to be one of these things. Check the engine running temperature . An over-hot engine will cause the oil light to come on too.

Low oil presure when hot in my k1500


if the engine has high mileage the lack of oil pressure could be worn main bearings.but if your lucky it could be a faulty oil pressure sending unit.fyi there are 2 sensors one is desingned to tell the ecm low pressure to shut off the fuel pump to prevent engine damage this would explain ur jerking
