Connect it up to a High Level Scan Tool and read the codes and live data. May be a bad connection on the ABS sensor or the brake wear sensor depending on the model.
Any grinding is not good. This almost sounds like a sticking brake rotor/caliper which is popping free, or a parking brake dragging. Either way the fact that it stops does not mean it will fix it self. I would inspect all 4 brake rotors for excess wear. try to determine if this happens after parking and braking, then isolate the area you thing the noise is coming from. Separate from that it could be a gear issue in your trans at low speed but you need to get it checked ASAP as it will only lead to greater expense.
Sounds to me like someone has perhaps knocked the ABS sensor while working on the brakes. The ECU in these cars interlinks various stability and braking components. Go back to the service center and ask them to put a code reader on the car and get a read out. It may only require that they reset the fault codes, but do not delay. On some Lexus vehicles these lights will also come on when the battery has been disconnected and there will be a reset for the programs, but the TRAC off light has never come on on my 2001 when doing brakes or battery swap. nice find an 02 with 75,000. My 2001 is over 160
- Place each hand against both sides of the plastic housing, and firmly
grasp and pull the housing towards you. It might not budge at first,
but it should move once you get a good grip on it.
- Pull the housing out just enough so that you can see the brake light
bulb and stick your hand underneath. Ignore the speaker wires.
- Pull out the old bulb from the socket (it plugs in/out). Wear rubber
gloves when handling the new bulb, and put the new one into the socket.
- Reverse the steps here to put the 3rd brake light back into place. Test out your brake light, and you're done" quoted from lexusk8 @ clublexus.com (great forum)
You set 2 codes when you did the front brakes. Both are hydraulic malfunction codes for the front wheels. It set these as you pumped the brakes to get the pedal up the first time. All you need to do is clear the codes. It happens on all Toyota hybrids, Prius, Highlander, Camry ect when you do the front brakes. Just find a place that will clear the codes for you. There is no malfunction..
If the pedal is spongy you may still have air in the lines. If there are no brakes at all you may need to adjust the push rod for the master cyl. If the ABS has a fault it will set a code and the rest of the brake sys. will work normally
