I purchased a used 2001 Chrysler Voyager from an elderly man that said he didn't know if the radio worked. It doesn't. The display doesn't come on but when I first turn the key on, I hear a "pfft" over the speakers and nothing else. I checked the fuses under the hood, pulled the radio out and all looks well with the exception of one wire(white with red) that doesn't seem to attach anywhere. Please help! I hope I won't need to buy another one.

Short of buying a repair manual for the vehicle, id find someone handy with a multimeter and check to see if theres any voltage comin thru the wire when the key is on. it might be the power wire. the pfft sound you hear might be from where there is a batt. wire goin to the radio so you dont lose your programmed stations

You either have a bad relay, bad temp sensor, or bad PCM. I would start with the relay as these give the most problems.

Is there green corosion on the tip of the wire ? Chances are the answer is yes. You will have to detach the fuse panel/box and run a new wire and connector to the fuse panel. Splice into the wire you can see, but make sur you cut enough of the wire off to get rid of the corrosion.Hope this helps.

SOURCE: 91 accord when turn key to start NOTHING

it could be your starter or ignition switch.
to check it you need a test light and another person
connect the test light to a good ground
touch the test light to a big terminal on the starter it should have power
touch the smaller terminal and have the other person starts the engine
you should have power while the engine being started, if not then the problem is in the switch. if you have power then starter is bad

SOURCE: I have a 1995 Buick LeSabre that won't start.

This is related to GM's VATS security system. It treats sudden loss of power as an attempt to steal the car. To reset the system, do the following: courtesy of ***** Master ASE Technician

  • Use your key fob (if equipped) or key to unlock the doors.
  • Turn the key to the start position and release it
  • Leave key in the ON position for 10 minutes.(the security light should go out at this time
  • Turn the key to the OFF position for 10 seconds
Repeat this process 2 more times. At the conclusion, your security light should be out and you should be able to start the car.

My 1997 Plymouth Voyager won't start sometimes, the radio changes by itself, the interior light doesn't always come on. Have had a new transmission, new battery, tune-up and spark plugs and had the...

When it doen'st start, you will need to check for spark, fuel. If it doesn't have one of these, you will need to start tapping the relay related to starter, and fuel pump. The best way to determine which ones they are is to get a manual, but another way is to place your hands on the relays that you think maybe related and have someone turn the key on. The correct relay will click. Now, you will need to see if the same relays are clicking during the no-start. If any of them fails to click, tap them with a screw driver. If it starts then, replace the relay. It maybe interfering with the radio since this is an electrical event.

Steering wheel will only turn slightly in either direction, can't turn the key either way it is a 2000 Chrysler Voyager

most cars have a steering lock that engages when you turn off the car. If you try wiggling the wheel while you turn the key, that might free up your steering. If just wiggling it a little does not work, try pulling it one way and turning the key, giving it a little force turning the wheel (sometimes the wheel locking mechanism gets stuck) ... if it still doesn't work, try turning the wheel the other way and turning the key. If you are still locked up .. you'll probably need to see a mechanic about it. Hopefully the wheel lock is just a little stuck and you can free it up yourself -- it's free that way :-)
