SOURCE: f150 transmission neutralizes when shifts to overdrive

I have that exact same truck and transmission and My Transmission did the exact same thing about a year ago and there was some kind of snap ring inside the transmission that broke. I originally thought it had to be an electirical problem because the truck shifted fine until OD or if i turned OD off. The 4r70w is a light transmission and i would suggest you have a shift kit put in and they make a heavier kit to beef it up.. Sorry its probably not the new you were looking for.

Make sure you have brake lamps. The shift interlock solenoid is powered by the brake lamp switch.

My 96 ford f150 stays in second gear no matter what gear it's in neutral reverse included

If your 1996 Ford F150 is staying in second gear, regardless of the gear selected, it could be caused by a few different issues, such as:
  1. Transmission control module (TCM) failure: The TCM is responsible for controlling the transmission. If it is faulty, the transmission may not shift properly and may stay in one gear.
  2. Linkage problem: The linkage connects the gear shift lever to the transmission. If the linkage is loose, worn or damaged, it can cause the transmission to not shift properly and stay in one gear.
  3. Clogged valve body: The valve body controls the flow of transmission fluid and can become clogged with debris, preventing the transmission from shifting properly.
  4. Worn or damaged gears: Worn or damaged gears in the transmission can cause the transmission to not shift properly and stay in one gear.
  5. Wiring issue: A damaged or corroded wire connection can cause the transmission to not shift properly and stay in one gear.
It's best to have a professional technician diagnose the problem and recommend the appropriate course of action. Sometimes, the problem can be solved by replacing a faulty module or repairing or replacing damaged linkage, valve body, gears, or wiring, but in some cases the repair may be more complex and require a transmission rebuild or replacement.
It's important to note that not addressing this issue can cause further damage to the transmission and make the repair more costly, so it's best to have it repaired as soon as possible.

1988 Dodge Ram 50 Automatic shifts into park reverse and neutral. But physically won't go into drive gears.

Disconnect shift cable from transmission linkage and try to manually put transmission in drive gear ( make sure wheels chocked/park brake on ). If transmission goes into drive gear, suspect a shift cable or shifter assembly problem. If you can't manually shift into drive gear by hand with cable disconnected, suspect internal transmission/shift linkage issue

1988 Ford Ranger. What do You do if you forgot to put the transmission in neutral before you pull the inner shifter out and the shifter wont work now. It will go back in but won't shift.

Remove the shifter again. And align the shift forks so they are all strait in line in the center and make a rectangle .Depending on what gear you left it in, only one fork will be out of center. Move it back like the other two and your in neutral, then reinstall the shifter.

1955 Ford Crwn Vic neutral switch will permit start in any gear not just neut or park. Is this a 2 or 3 speed auto transmission? will start in drive selection and only shift once witn no kickdown gear at...

A 1955 Ford would have a Ford-o-matic transmission which has three speeds forward. The transmission starts out in second gear unless you shift into low.
I am not aware of these transmissions having a neutral safety switch.
The 3 speed automatic transmissions that started in low and had a downshift to second under load were first used in the mid 1960s.

While shifting from 4x4 to 4x2 the gear lever is jammed at neutral position & jeep is not moving

there are no syncros in the transfer case, that would ease in shifting. i would try putting it in gear with the transmission, this will reposition the gears in the transfer case. then back to park or neutral. now try shifting to 4x2.
