I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid that is drawing 19 volts on a 12 volt system so its not charging the battery and has to be jumped every time. Have already tried removing every fuse one at a time but its still doing it. Any suggestions?

That is a pretty high draw. You might want to try disconnecting the wire that goes directly to the starter and alternator. How are you checking the draw? Do you have your meter leads in series between your negative battery terminal and negative battery terminal.

Most likely just replace it. You could pull the fuse and then use a small screwdriver to try and pull the tabs inside the receiver in toward the center a little. It could be that repeated insertion and extraction of the lighter or accessory plug has bent them outward enough that they're not making sufficient contact to power what you plug in. If that doesn't work, replace it and then put the fuse back in.

A 12 volt battery is actually 13.2 volts fully charged. If you are reading 16 volts, you are probably getting extranious voltage from the system somewhere, especially if the vehicle is running when you check the voltage. The alternator will put out about 15-18 volts to charge the battery normally, and yours may put out 28-32 volts to charge them in series, but the batteries, when disconnected, should never read more than about 13.2 volts each. Typically, it will read about 12 1/2 volts when disconnected. COMPLETELY DISCONNECT BOTH OF THE BATTERIES. If you still read 16 volts when it is disconnected, you must have a bad meter because the battery can't produce that much voltage, no matter what. (Six 2.2 volt cells connected in series inside the case.) Put the meter on a known good battery on another car that is not running and see if you get the same reading. It sounds like the other battery is almost dead, regardless, and it sounds like your series/parallel switch may be malfunctioning. (That is the switch that puts the battery in series to run the 24 volt starter, then puts the batteries in parallel to run the remainder of the vehicle on 12 volts. This is all assuming that you have a diesel vehicle with a 24 volt starter and that is why you have two batteries.

A battery can read 12 volts yet be weak in cold cranking amps, try a jumpstart and if that works have your battery load tested. Im betting your gonna find the battery fails the load test, meaning it needs to be replaced..

Perfectly normal.
Starting with the 2005 model year, light duty full size pickups and utilities are equipped with a new Regulated Voltage Control (RVC) system. This system reduces the targeted output of the generator to 12.6-13.1 volts when in "Fuel Economy Mode" to improve fuel economy. The generator may exit "Fuel Economy Mode" if additional voltage is required. This will cause the voltmeter to fluctuate between 12 and 14 volts as opposed to non-regulated systems that usually maintain a more consistent reading of 14 volts. This fluctuation with the RVC system is normal system operation and NO repairs should be attempted.

Does the vehicle start after sitting over night or do you need to jump start it . Is the charge light on ( batt. symbol ) at any time ? Serpentine belt good , tensioner good ? Battery cable connections good an tight and no corrosion ? Battery also good ? That is normal for battery voltage to jump up to 14 volts after starting , alternator is replenishing the battery after starting ,that draws down the battery . Going down to 11 or 12 volts when stopping and almost stalling isn't a charging system problem . You have a idle problem , IAC - idle air control valve or dirty air passage , a vacuum leak . Giving it gas and it going up to 13+ the alternator is working . Your best bet take it to a qualified repair shop and have it check .

Has power but wont start or even turn over

Hello, Have the Battery checked. The Ford AntiTheft systems are sensitive for low batteries. When the system senses a problem, it can actually reduce the voltage to the starter to about 7 Volts.

Although the Battery is a 12 volt, the general full charge is 13.2 to 13.6 volts. The system can also interrupt the Alternator if you attempt to jump start the vehicle and drive away. After several running minutes your vehicle will completely drain the battery and die.

Once you get things going, go to Autozone, Advance, or Oreillys for a free charging system check. Ask them to do a starter draw test to insure the starter is good too.

if the battery light is on while running the charging system is not working.you can check
with a volt meter,setting meter to dc volts & connect meter leads to battery.reading should
be 13.2 - 14.5 volts if lower than this your only reading battery voltage.check single red wire to the alternator it should read battery volts 12v.if battery voltage is present than alternator is faulty,if no voltage reading you'll need to trace & repair the wiring
note; battery should be fully charge before testing

If you have a Battery charger, disconnect the Neg cable of the battery from the SUV and charge the battery overnight. When you get the SUV running, take it to Autozone or Oreillys for a free scan. Also ask them to do a Starter draw test and to analyze your charging system and Battery.

The Ford antitheft systems are really sensitive to low power. While your vehicle has a 12 Volt system, a fully charged battery will have 13.2 to 13.4 Volts in it. A drop of 10% in battery performance will drop the charge to 12 Volts or less. This is enough to make the anti-theft lock out the Starter.

I have seen Charging systems automatically turn off once a jumper cable is removed. You can see it on the dash gauges where the Alternator is working and remove the jumper and after several minutes a perfectly good Alternator stops working while you are driving. Then install a battery with a 13.2 Volt charge and everything starts working perfectly from then on.

I mention this because you may have felt the Battery was charging after the jump and really it was not. You have to watch the Volt meter in your dash while you drive, there will be no warning lights.

P0562 System Voltage Low

I would start with the P0562 issue. Check the battery voltage - it should be at a minimum of 12 volts (DC). You can try charging the battery with a trickle charger overnight and if the voltage does not come up to 12 volts then you should replace the battery. If it comes up to 12 volts then try starting it up if it starts you should get the alternator checked out at a garage. A simple alternator check is measuring the voltage at the battery you should get between 13.2 to 18.2 volts when the vehicle is running. The low voltage may be the cause of the other two codes. If not the P0344 indicates you may need to replace the sensor or if the timing slipped you may need to replace the timing chain / belt. The P0700 could indicate a low fluid condition or it may mean take it to a transmission mechanic.

Are you familiar on how to perform a current draw, by using a 12 volt test light? This will help isolate what circuit in your electrical is causing the draw, provided battery good, and alternator has been confirmed good. Simple to do, only takes your time, and a 12 volt test light, or any 12 volt bulb and socket you may have in the garage. Get back to me, for instructions if your not familiar with procedure.
One thing i will ask is, about the stereo, is it factory, or has someone changed it to aftermarket? That is a good place to start looking if it's not a factory stereo system. 12 volt plug in spots in interior are another, such as sockets for cell phone adapters to plug in etc.

You have a draw in the system,something is pulling 12 volts,when the vehicle is not being used,now some draws are normal,but they do not draw but small amounts of amps,like one half amp or lower,you are looking for something drawing much more,also,if the battery is not up to par,this could be all that it is,but check for a draw.

How many volts do you have when before you try to start your car? It seems as if your battery is not holding a charge, being that you are getting enough volts to charge the battery. I would check the fluid level inside the battery and fill it up with distilled water if needed. Also it wouldn't hurt to clean the battery terminals and wire connectors. Also make sure that the connection is at the top of the terminal and not the bottom (nearest the battery casing).

TEST B: BATTERY VOLTAGE OUT OF RANGE - DTC B1676
1. Check if vehicle has been jump started within past 2 weeks. If vehicle has been jump started, ABS is
okay. If vehicle has not been jump started, go to next step.
2. Using DVOM, measure voltage between positive and negative battery terminals. If voltage is 9-19 volts,
go to next step. If voltage is not 9-19 volts, diagnose charging system. See appropriate GENERATORS
article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS.
3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect 25-pin ABS control module. Install EEC-IV 60-pin Breakout Box (014-
00322). Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between breakout box terminal No. 20 and ground. If voltage
is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair Light Blue/Pink wire between
ABS control module and instrument panel fuse panel.
4. Turn ignition off. Measure voltage between breakout box terminal No. 25 and ground. If voltage is
greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair Red wire between ABS
control module and power distribution box/engine compartment fuse box.
5. Measure voltage between breakout box terminal No. 9 and ground. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go
to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair Yellow/Light Green wire between ABS control module
and power distribution box/engine compartment fuse box.
6. Measure resistance between breakout box terminal No. 8 and ground. Also, measure resistance between
breakout box terminal No. 24 and ground. If both resistance measurements are less than 5 ohms, replace
ABS control module and repeat self-test. If either resistance measurement is greater than 5 ohms, repair
suspect Black wire between ABS control module and ground distribution.
NOTE: DTC B1676 will set if vehicle has been jump started.
