Truck was shifting fine an the stuck in 3rd gear is there a way i can get it back to nutral
Selecvtor is stuck
Depending on trans top load or side either way you have slipped out of the shift which means you have a worn or bent shift fork.unscrew the top post pull the shift and look down you will see slots they should line up check your shiftier to see if it is going into the slot if it was loose when you removed it chances are it just slipped out put a bar into th hole and line up the slots reinsert the shiftier and make sure it slides side to side try to shift if it slides out again your shift forks are bad or synchronize has failed.

sounds like you should start by dropping the pan and changing the filter, put cheap fluid in it or reuse the old fluid if its not too bad bring it to a shop and have a transmission flush performed with a good flush machine your valve body is sticking and this should clear things up please rate -jeff
SOURCE: truck wont shift automatic. stays in 3rd gear. can shift manually

SOURCE: hard shift from 1st to 2nd gear automatic
what year is vehicle please ?? as people often put it in wrong catagory ,if its mazada 2007 then its dealer only as a computer controls it all and the software is factory encrypted to stop general garages from repairing it .But check for a vacumn pipe loose under bonnet ,thin rubber pìpe from inlet manifold to gearbor or a diaphram switch,

Your transmissions need to be service (fluid and filter change) and possibly a TCU replacement. Do NOT go to a dealer. Instead, look on ebay or craigslist for part outs. Transmission control units can be expensive but that is most likely the problem if you already changed ur fluid.
SOURCE: 1997 Ford Taurus, Won't Shift Past 3rd Gear
The forward clutch control valve has a retaining clip that is known to break on these tranny's. This can prevent it from shifting into 4th gear. Good news, the part is five bucks. Bad news, it's in the valve body which takes a few hours to get to. I fixed mine in about 8 hours thanks to great step by step instuctions I found online. Search for "valve body removal taurus tranny". If it's not the retainer clip then it could be one of the solenoids on the valve body. I believe there's one just for 3rd and 4th gear. Good luck
