My headlights went off and won't come back on. My battery light and my ABS lights both went on and won't go off. My battery has been dying on almost a daily basis since my stereo was installed, but the ABS brake light and headlights is a whole new thing. I 've got 4 kids and I really don't have the money to be paying out to a mechanic that most likely is gonna screw me over. What can I do to fix this myself?

You could have a problem with the alternator, you will need a multimeter to test the battery then the battery with the engine running. HID lights ABS will not work at below 10 volts. the alternator may be charging but not at its full power, battery should be 12.05 volts fully charged and with alternator should make the voltage at the battery with engine running, should be at 14 volts. I don't think the radio would be the problem unless it has been wired wrong but that should not be the case if used original wiring. but if the alternator and battery is good then i would check the radio, it could be sorting out somewhere if not fitted correctly or has a fault.

did you get the stereo professionally installed? if so i would take it back to them and have them check the wiring.......although it sounds like the battery is no longer charging.Have you tried to charge it or get a boost? if everything seems to work properly with a boost then you definitely have a charging issue....(one simple test to see if your alternator is working is to start the vehicle and while its running remove the neg cable....... if it dies the charging system in not working)
hope this helps.Good Luck!

you wont get much change out of £600,and that is with a kia main dealer(not much cheaper at quickfit)but they will be looking for anything that needs doing(thats how they make there money)..
SOURCE: How can you tell if you have ABS on 2004 Kia
Turn the ignition key to the "on" position but do not start the engine. Look at the lamps on the instrument cluster, there should be an abs light that shows. You can also open the hood, and follow the brake lines from the master cylinder. If the vehicle has ABS (and it should for that year and model) the lines will route to an ABS controller (which looks like a big metal "block" with a number of brake lines running to it and will probably say ABS on the housing.

HAD TO HAVE ALTENATOR REPLACED...TWICE! FIRST AT A LOCAL FRANCHISE, STILL HAD THE PROBLEM. SO IT HAD TO BE REDONE AT KIA DEALERSHIP, WHICH INCLUDED AN UPGRADED ALT KIT & NEW BELT & REPROGRAM OF ECM. @$650 . BE SURE THAT UPGRADED PARTS ARE USED THE FIRST TIME!
