Replacing rear brake pads on a 2008 ford taurus se, can't get the calpiper to expand enough to put pads on. Using tool purchased from auto parts store but it is taking a LONG time, is this normal?

  • Anonymous Jul 24, 2012

Edgar I have taken the car back to dealer several times complaining on a noise coming from the rear of the car. Told them it sounded like a scraping sound. Each time they told me they could not "duplicate" the noise. Now that I have a problem it is out of warranty (too many miles). I called the dealership and was told pretty much nothing they could do. I looked for th build date. Is in a code? I see 06/2008. Is that the build date?

The build date is on the white sticker on the drivers door

Testimonial: "the white sticker on my car is on the column between the drivers door and the passenger door. Nothing seems to be where it should be. :)"

SOURCE: how to replace rear brake pads

Jack up car, remove wheel. There are two bolts that hold the caliper on. Remove these. Caliper comes off, take old pads out. There is a special tool to compress the piston back into the caliper (do not use a C Clamp on the rears.) Put new pads back on, re-install the caliper, and put the wheel back on. Pump the brake pedal until it is firm. Done.

SOURCE: 2008 ford taurus problems

I would get a hold of someone in Ford customer service because you should have a 3years or 36,000mile warrenty on this car and you should not be having all the problems you are having I am a Ford man and I have had 6 taurus myself and never had any of the problems you are having and mine have all been bought used with previous owners. this is something I would like for you do for me and let me know open the driverside door and look at the build date and if it is somewhere around a holiday this maybe your problem cause at that time everyone is thinking about celebrating and not thinking about the quality of their work.

SOURCE: 2001 ford mustang rear brakes

not exactly sure of what your asking but they do have screw type calipers that use a special tool to screw them back into place. I have used needle nose vise grips.

I’m replacing the rear pads on Ma’s 2015 Ford Escape se. 2.5l gas only, auto trans, front wheel drive. Can I use an ABS caliper compression cube? Or do I need an actual ABS specific compressor?

Use the correct tool which in this case is the cube. If you have not brakes before, perhaps this may not be a task you should undertake. In correctly done and you may not have brakes.

Is there a special rear brake tool for 2008 pathfinder

Yes their is a special tool to wind the rear calipers in and push in at the same time ,if no tool then use a G clamp and apply a bit of pressure then turn piston with a pair of water pump pliers ,better if someone turns the G clamp whilst you turn the piston ,but its easier to buy a cheap tool from the auto factor

Changing rear brake pads on 2008 Ford Taurus and a threaded rod located within the caliber piston prevents compression of piston back into the caliber.

You need a special tool for rear pads. The pistons have to be turned in, there is either slots or holes in the piston for the tool to fit in, then just turn the piston clockwise and push a little at the same time.
Just turn them in far enough for the new pads to slide over the rotor.

HOW DO I CHANGE THE BRAKES REAR ON 2008 TAURUS. I

Hi, if you are replacing the rear pads, you will need a special caliper tool(can be purchased or rented from Autozone or Discount Auto Parts) to reseat the piston as it has to be turned or rotated inward to reseat..
ameezle_2.png

To move the piston back into the caliper, the LH piston is turned clockwise and the RH piston is turned counterclockwise. NOTE: A moderate to heavy force toward the caliper piston must be applied. If sufficient force is not applied, the internal park brake mechanism clutch cone will not engage and the piston will not compress. Using the special tool (or equivalent such as OTC tool 7317A), compress the brake caliper piston into its cylinder.

In an emergency, you can use needle nose pliers, but be careful not to pinch the rubber boot or seal as this will create a leak of brake fluid....

How to release tension on parking brake cable to remove from rear caliper - 2008 Ford Taurus X

you should'nt have any tension on the parking brake, unless it's on. check the parking brake to insure that it's in the off position. chock" the rear wheels,to make sure the car does'nt roll while you're jacking it up and "always use jackstands,do not trust your jack" does your brake caliper piston have a + on it?it will be on the brake caliper piston itself, if so,then you need to back the brake caliper piston back in by turning it counterclockwise, auto parts stores sell a special tool to back the brake calipers back into place, i've always used a straight screwdriver,to turn the piston counterclockwise some do turn clockwise though to retract the brake piston. a simple call to the auto parts store where you're purchasing the brakes will tell you which way the piston will need to be retracted.other wise,it's a simple brake replacement, just push the brake caliper cylinder with a "C" clamp to retract the brake caliper, also,if you are replacing brake rotors, purchase the brake kleen to spray on the new brake rotors when you replace those.they have a clear film on them, you'll need to remove that film to insure no future issues with the brake rotors.simply spray the front and back of the brake rotors with this spray to remove the protective "film"and as always, thank you,for choosing fixya.com!

Rear brake pads replacement how do i remove and replace i tried to take the calpiper off and got the bolts removed but the old pads are tight againset the rotor

Yes they will be. Especially if you have the parking brake applied. The piston must be pressed back into the caliper cylinder completely to install the new pads. So you need a tool to do this. Ask at the autoparts store where you purchased the pads for the correct tool for you vehicle. You need to pry them back a little to slip the pads past the unworn ridge on the rotor, then use the tool to press the piston back into the cylinder all the way.

How do you compress the caliper on a 2008 town & Country?

2008 Chrysler Town and Country
Replacing the Rear Brake Pads

Process is typical except for the rotating (screw type) brake piston. You cannot just compress the brake piston with a C-clamp, you have to turn the piston back in. This is easily done with the correct tool (Rear Disc Brake Piston Tool). The tool I had needed to be slightly modified to fit Chrysler's pattern.

Most Auto Parts store like Auto Zone and Parts Source will have the tools for lone or you can buy the tool and keep it in your tool box and the price ranges from $12.00 to $50.00 depending on the brake tool as to universal or specific to the vehicle make. Good luck and keep me posted.
