2002 dodge neon alternator, fusible link, computer are good still does not charge

Test fusible link, changed computer box, alternator, battery. Still not charging

  • Anonymous Jul 25, 2012

Thank everyone. The problem is fixed. It was the fusible link wire. I would have never found it, for all the test readings were all good. Until i decided to to test all the alternator wires and when I pulled the fusible link wire, it broke. It didn't even show signs of burned or melted rubber insolater. I was lucky to ahve found it and didn't have to splice too far into the wires.

It only tooked me three months to find the problem, and I did it without a computer, OBD II tester, I turned in to our local dodge dealer, and hoping they would find the problem. Instead, I paid $98.00, for incomplete test results, cause they told me that my alternator, battery, and engine wiring harness needed to be replace. I am looking at spending close to $2500 or more. They told me the battery was alternator and battery was bad, They're both new. They siad the wiring harness needed to be replace because the wire to the starter wasn't the original, another words RIG. So I told them, that I can't afford the repairs, so I just pay the $98.00 and get my car. I can't see myself paying that much knowing that I can do the same. If I start changing everything that has to do with the charging system on my neon, I will fix the problem. Which what I did, with the help of the internet. I fix my charging problem, and it only cost me under $20.00. Thank you again.

SOURCE: 86 Tercel 2wd wagon won't charge it's battery

clean battery terminals ,bring battery to be tested after charging, after reinstalling battery run car and test alternator output it should be a minimum of 13-14volts if it is under 13 replace alternator , use a voltmeter set on 12 volt 10 amp dc to check the wire to check is located on the back of the alternator covered with a rubber grommet of course hold negative wirw on volt meter to ground and touch red wire to big terminal on back of alternator while car is running should have 14 volts or at least 13 volts

SOURCE: dodge neon 2002. My alternator is not charging,

wires run direct to alternator from battery ,test big lead for a permanant 12v supplyon the back of the alternator if you have one then the problem is either the brushes worn out or the commutator worn through.or the regulator either way its a recon unit as parts are not sold seperate anymore as not many dealer mechanics know how to repair anything and the spares shops make more profit on a unit than parts so they do not sell spares to stop people like me and you from doing our own repairs

Why won't it start?

The word BATTERY is telling you the charging system isn't charging the battery ! Probably . Check for B+ voltage on the heavier gage wire on the alternator , if no B+ voltage there is a open fusible link Coming from the battery cable connected to the starter solenoid . The smaller gage wires , one goes to the PCM - engine computer an the other is a ground . You battery is dead too , from running the vehicle without charging system not working . Charge the battery or replace it , have it test etc...

How to change fusible link to alternator on 2002 ford tausus

IF your car even has a fusible link it will be on the positive battery cable which goes to the alternator. Make sure you disconnect the negative cable from the battery also when you go to remove the positive cable. This is also a dealer item so you'll have to go to FORD to buy the new cables which they usually only sell as a set. Be prepared to pay $75 - $100 for the cables.

If the fusible link is blown, I'd suggest testing the Alternator to make sure it isn't over charging or spiking, that fusible link should be good for about 175 amps so it really shouldn't blow unless there's another problem like a faulty regulator.

My 1991 Dodge ram 1500 ,318 motor alternator is new. Everything grounded Good. But not charging battery. And when I jumpstart it take the jumpin cables off test the battery and alternator with voltage...

My first point to check would be the fusible link for it. Check the wiring diagram in the shop manual and its location in your year/model/VIN and check it. Suspect it was fried by inadvertently arcing at alternator out put lug when servicing alternator.

Charging system diagrams for 2002 dodge dakota

There is 4 gauge black/red wire going from te alternator to Fuse #2 in the PDC. The alternator and battery both connect (positive side) at this point. The alternator's path to charge the battery is from the alternator, to this tie point, then to the battery. In the wire, between the alternator and the PDC tie point, is a fusible link. This link may have broken or melted. That would keep the alternator from being able to charge the battery. I would check this wire for continuity and replace the link if necessary.

2002 chavy astro new alt, good bat, good fusible link still no charge

I take it that you have put all the wires on to the back of the alternator. The bolt on one and the connection one.. Is the belt properly tensioned. If yes to all have an auto electrician look at the problem as it may be a faulty alternator.

Alternater wont charge battery and fusable link on starter keeps burning

Bad voltage regulator. Usually built-into alternator.
Start car and unplug battery, if it dies your alternator is dead. Get new alternator. If car keeps running, get a voltmeter and check voltage coming through - should be higher than 12v but less than 18v. Any other number means your voltage regulator is dead, cheaper to get a new alternator.

do a continuity test from the large red wire on your alt to the battery, could be a fusible link or broken wire, sometimes a wire will break within the sheathing so it won't be visible by eye, check all conections for corrosion and either clean or repair
