Adjust Airconditioner belt tension on 2001 GMC Yukon

Putting a new a/c belt on my 2001 GMC Yukon w/ 5.3L V8. How do I install the belt and adjust the tension? I can't see the tensioner pully adjustment. Does it take special tools?

Some of these didnt have a tensioner, if yours does it will be spring loaded at all times, but some have no tensioner and the belt has to be rolled onto the pulleys by turning the engine over by hand.. If this is your style the belt is. One time install deal if you take it off you need to replace it!!

SOURCE: how do i take tension off serpentine belt on 2001

Look at the front of the tenisinor there is a squre slot in it a 3/8 ths extention for a 3/8 ths drive scoket wrench will fit in it. Put the extention on the wrench and put the end in the slot then push toword the engine this will move the tenisitoner and release the tention and then you will be able to remove the belt.

SOURCE: Is it possible to adjust the tension of my fan

depending on the engine thats in you vehicle, all newer gm engines run an automatic tensioner. . the tensioners bind up with age and the belt will start to slip and make noise. if you change tyhe tensioner, change the belt at the same time... it doesnt take long for a slipping belt to get a "glaze" on it, and then your truck with its new tensioner might still squeak.

Where is the ac belt in a 2001 gmc yukon

You got two belts on this vehicle the serpentine belt which runs the power steering, water pump, alternator. Behind the serpentine belt toward the bottom if the engine compartment theres a smaller belt that runs frm the crank to the ac compressor and the belt tensioner.

Below is a diagram for the belt routing on your Yukon. The belt tensioner is the top left pulley as you look at it from the front of the truck.

Where is the belt tensioner on a 2001 chevy tahoe

You need to remove the front belt first. Take the tension off the belt by putting a socket or wrench on the tensioner and pivot it away. I would make a quick sketch of the belt route if you don't have a diagram. The AC compressor tensioner is on the bottom and the belt comes off the same way. Installation is the reverse.

Putting on a new serpentine belt on my gmc yukon and can't quite get it to go on, what is the trick? Tried even using a little dawn liquid on the edge of the alt. pulley and wouldn't go. Thanks Rick

nonononono.there is a tool for this you can pick up at sears. it gives you a little more leverage on the spring loaded tensioner that is used on this system.

2001 GMC Drive Belt

there is a tensioner that keeps the belt tight, when you turn the tensioner bolt it will sink down and release and give slack. you have to hold the wrench down while pulling the belt off. when installing the new belt you will also have to hold the wrench down. it's not an easy bolt to turn and hold down, must be simi-strong
