Haynes manual doesn't say where or how to replace. car hesitates badly from a stop, unless you almost spin the tires, also shifting funny.

Are you useing the recommened grade of fuel, the Taurus will have cold start issues if prem. fuel is used when 89 octane is recommened, saw this many times while working for ford.
SOURCE: installed a new stater, battery and alt or fine, car makes a clunck sometimes b4 starting
The ignition coil can't do what you describe.
It almost sounds as if you have some broken teeth on the flywheel that the starter engages.
I would remove the starter, loosen or remove the spark plugs to relieve compression, then have someone turn the engine byhand while peering into the bellhousing with a flashlight where the starter mounts and inspect the flywheel for damage.
With a tooth (or more) worn or broken off, when the Bendix throws the starter gear forward, it may be landing on top of a broken tooth, slipping off, then turning your engine over.
There may be enough tooth even if broken, to stay engaged once the starter has meshed.
SOURCE: bad speed sensor need to be replace
just remove the 5/16 bolt and pull sensor of and reinstall new one,
bolt is kind of tie to get to but ones is out it will be simple
SOURCE: accelerating from a stop at b/t 30-35mph transmition hesitates
Your transmission is going out, sorry to be the bearer of bad news dude. You have an internal pressure leak. That's why it's catching and releasing. You have to build up the pressure in it to get it to engage the clutchplates. Everytime it does that, you're getting closer and closer to it not going back into gear. Park it if you can, otherwise you will be towing it in a couple of weeks if driven every day.
