My trans sport will work from cold but after 10 mins cannot select any gears until it has cooled down again

Gearbox has been drained, flushed & internal filter cleaned then refilled with fresh fluid but no improvement

  • Anonymous Jun 11, 2012

I also notices after moving it that the fluid level had dropped, is it possible that the transmission fluid could be drawn into the engine sump?

SOURCE: 1998 pontiac transport 3.4 auto leaking trans fluid

It sounds like the Transmission line has a leak. Check the transmission line from the transmission to the radiator. You have two steel lines which runs to and from the transmission to the transmission cooler in the radiator. The line could be corroded and may need to be replaced, good luck and service the transmission too. The transmission on the transport are know to have problems when ran low on fluid or dirty transmission filter.
Good luck and hope this helps.

SOURCE: I need to drain and flush the cooling system on my car the

the van will be okay just dont fill cooling system with water and leave it then it will freeze the motor. also you might freeze its not an easy job, is the core leaking, or are you not getting heat, if its no heat then just flush the core with waterhose from hoses going to it, just remove the hoses to core and use waterhose to flush out, go into both hoses one at a time do this a few times and you will have heat. if its leaking then replace it.hope this helps.

Testimonial: "Thanks yes the whole system needs flushed and the core needs replaced took me about 7 hours yesterday to get the core cover off. I to work today froze"

SOURCE: Unable to shift any gears (manual trans)

Have someone watch the clutch arm when pushing on the clutch to make sure it is actually moving when the pedal is pressed. Fiero's are miserable to get the clutch bled properly

No reverse gear automatic gearbox freelander

Have the car scanned by a transmission shop for transmission related fault codes (not all generic scanners will read trans codes) you may have a bad solonoid in the trans valve body?

REVERSE INHIBIT
If the vehicle exceeds 6 mph (10 km/h) in the forward direction, and Reverse (R) gear is selected, the EAT ECU switches on the low clutch timing solenoid valve in the valve block, which drains the fluid from the reverse clutch.
This function prevents the gearbox from engaging reverse gear when the vehicle is moving in a forward direction, so preventing damage to the gearbox We Are Here To Help !Donald Deane MCSE,ASE,CPO

How to change the auto trans oil & filter

get a pro full flush or only 1/3 the ATF will be changed.

drop pan, (huge flood if no drain plug)
replace filter.
put back new gasket with pan. (add drain plug now if missing)
connect full flush system to lines on trans.
turn on flush sys.
then follow instructions on said system.

the DIY way (done many a time.
is same but add in back the same exact oil drained
then drive 10 miles.
drain/fill again,(plug pull) if not pink
repeat until ATF looks pink/red, or till tummy feels happy.

98 voyager 3.3 auto trans wont chande gears --seems to be staying in second gear --- hard to move from standstill --- engine temp light came on --- once transmission cools down it works ok til gets h

If you have been driving it, with it over heating as well as
low on fluid your pretty much done & will need a rebuild

If you just drove 10 miles-- then possibly you could have it
diagnosed & find a less costly solution- such as bad solenoids,
but I doubt it

Problem changing gears when hot. ok when cold!

It will be best to get someone to check the hydraulics of the clutch. That is a common issue.
Get a workshop to drain the gearbox oil and flush the system. A tell tale may come from the drained oil if the tranny is near end of life.

I have a 12/2000 grandure, it sticks in 3rd gear of the auto trans, but only when it has warmed up, u can reset it by stopping turning the ignition off and re starting, but only until it hits third gear...

Time for a gearbox oil change. As the oil gets older it breaks down and that means it heats up too quickly, meaning it will not allow the auto to change gears properly. As you have switched the engine off and restarted it tricks the ECU into thinking that the gearbox oil is cold until it reaches too high levels.

Change the oil soon as an auto box rebuild isn't cheap.

Hope this helps.

Auto transmition wont go into 3rd and 4th gear

I had the same problem I changed the transmission fluid & put a new filter in the trans, this fixed it good until I put my foot down to overtake the trans kicked down to 2nd gear & the hold light started flashing again & the trans started slipping again. I stressed over it for a day or 2 & then I took it out for a drive & thrashed it, Low & behold it came right. When you change fluid its impossible to get all the old fluid out because the torque converter holds a liter or two under pressure, so when I put my foot down some of the gunk blew through & blocked the pump it looses pressure & cant change gear. You need to get it flushed by a transmission specialist
