Likely, you have a hydraulic clutch system. Check clutch master cylijnder for fluid and leakage, check hydraulic line and slave cylinder for leaks. If fluid low or empty, bleed as you would a brake wheel cylinder. If full, have someone work the clutch while you watch slave cylinder to make sure it is moving clutch fork. If system full and little or no movement, the master may be "bypassing" internally (replace) Also, check pedal mechanical linkage. Not often but sometimes these parts can break! Could also be athat clutch itself is worn, but this does not happen overnight and you would have noted slip long before this!

There is a software update for the PCM that addresses this issue. TSB 18-028-06
SOURCE: engine control wiring diagram 1989
I am looking for a wiring diagrapm for a 1989 Jeep Wrangler. I have a wire that is running to the alternator with an Orange and red wire that are not hooked up to anything and I cannot find a place for them. It is a single pin connector.
Thanks

P0302 means number two cylinder has a misfire, due to possibly a spark plug, spark plug wire, ignition coil, fuel injector or something mechanical in the engine like a bad valve, valve spring etc. Start at the front of the engine, where all the accessories are mounted(alternator, power steering pump, etc) then count each each spark plug from left to right in normal order. The cylinder to the left will be 1, and the cylinder to the far right will be 4. When you locate number 2 cylinder, check the plug wire for damage. remove the spark plug and inspect it for wear. A new set of spark plugs and wires will probably fix your problem. Otherwise it may me a coil pack or ignition module. Hope this helps.

re: 1989 jeep wrangler ....After further research, and taking the dash apart I found out there is not a check engine light. It's an emission maint. light, that comes on at 82,500 miles. And is not present when key is on.
I looked in my 1989 owner's manual and here's what it says - "Emissions Maintenance Indicator Light - (Does not appear in California vehicles). Illuminates at approximately 82,500 miles (133,000 km) to indicate that the PCV valve and oxygen sensor are scheduled for replacement. See your dealer as soon as possible." Wasn't until 1991 when they changed the 2.5 to MPI and the I6 to the 4.0 that they got a check engine light.
