SOURCE: Steering wheel clicks on 1998 Subaru Legacy Outback wagon

steering column bearing sounds like a worn out steering column... jack the front wheels off the ground both sides relieve load on steering wheel to see if it lessens the amount of feel and noise, if it does it shoud be the column bearing, replace bearings or complete column,,, also try with the wheels off the ground and safely supported to manualy steer the wheels by hand and see if you feel in roughness or hear any noises, should some minor resistance but be smooth in it movement if everything suspension and steering component wise is in good working condition... please rate my help.. thanks...

SOURCE: how do i bleed my power steering rack on subaru legacy rs turbo

A power steering dosent need bleeding. If you replaced it a week ago and was fine until now then it's not an air problem. Power steering fluid is pumped through the system even when the steering is not being used. Definatly not an airlock problem. Cheer's

SOURCE: Automotive problem. 1991 Subaru Legacy C

Lubricant may not resolve it sounds like it could be your water pump froze up. Look to see if it is turning. Even if it turns it still could be bad.Usally the first sign of it going bad. Stop by your local auto parts store to see if they agree.

When turning the steering wheel to the extreme end either to the left or right, hear a sequeaking noise.

How long have you owned the car before discovering this noise? Have you replaced the tires recently? I'm not sure what your squeaking noise sounds like exactly, but it sounds like it could be one of the two problems. If it sounds kind of like rubber squealing your tires may be the wrong size for your car and at extreme steering degrees the tires can rub on the car in a number of places. If the squealing sounds more internal like a muffled tea kettle and you can feel it through your hands (even slightly) while holding the wheel it's probably your power steering. If your power steering fluid isn't low then you make want to get your power steering pump checked. This is always better than waiting until your power steering pump goes out on you while you are driving down the highway (usually happens in the middle of a curve). I can personally tell you that one is no fun at all! :)

When I back out of a driveway or turn to pull into a driveway I am feeling a resistance during the turn almost like I forgot to release the emergency break. any ideas?

does it squeal as well? sounds like the power steering pump is slowing down / straining while under high pressure, which could slow down the engine- check power steering fluid, but sounds like a pump issue

The rear end is making a whining noise, the tranny is starting to slip, and the rear window regulator went out. Why did we buy a Mercury?????? Disgusted Dave!!!

Just Got A Honda Prelude What Do I look For?

Take a look at the cv joints....the boots that cover the ends that go into the tranny and the end that attaches to the tire area. Look at the color of the oil...see if it is grey or tainted with anything other than motor oil.

Take a look at the belts....cracks fraying, shredding....is the belt tight....that type of thing for the belt inspection....look for shiny spots...leads to squealing.

Drive the vehicle at different speeds....you're paying attention to the "feel" of the steering...this will give you indications of the front end....it pulls left, it pulls right.....wobbles....make turns left and right....listen for clunks....all this will let you know the condition of the front end/steering system.

Get on the highway or open road.....drive about 45-65 and slow down faster than usual...if it pulses in the front end, and you can feel it in the steering wheel...good bet the rotors are warped from high speed braking. Squeeks when you apply breaks....brake wear indicator telling you the brakes are worn.

Jack the front of the car up and twist and pull...push and pull the left and right tire....anby wobble or noises...may have bad bushing/ball joints/cv joints.

there is a lot of stuff to look for...but this is a few things to keep you busy.

Hope this helps you.

Please don't forget to rate.....Thanks

'88 Volvo 740GLE won't get past 30 mph

Horrible squeal. If my 740 made a horrible squeal I would be upset also. These ideas - timing belt has somehow slipped out of time. Easy check. One of the other belts are slowing the engine any of them can squeal: The alternator belt The power steering belt The fan belt. Does the noise occur only when driving? Does the engine sound normal when revving in neutral? Does turning on the lights or a/c affect the noise? Does the power steering work when car is standing? Is the squeal heard when turning the wheels. A logical diagnosis will identify and eliminate these easy to fix problems.
