When I try to start the car it will crank for quite a while then finally start, once started it will run perfect. The problem comes once I shut it down and try to restart it. When its warm it will just crank and won't start back up. We have checked the spark plugs and wires and also the distributor and they are all fine. I was thinking the fuel pump was going out or somewhere along the fuel line it was getting to warm and vapor locking. Help me please!!!
Probably lost spark or gas when it gets warmed and wont restart.
Do these two tests when it acts up: test the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge. I believe you can rent them at Autozone. You don't have to start the engine, just hook up the gauge, turn the key to on, and check the pressure. It must be within Pontiac (GM)specs, which for multiport injection is pretty high around 40-45 psi. Parts stores can look it up for you, I believe.
Also pull a spark plug wire and check for spark with engine cranking over. The easiest and safest way to do this is to buy an inexpensive spark tester. The plug wire fits over the tester, then you clip the tester to a ground, like a metal bolt or bracket on the engine. Verify there is a strong blue spark- if not the ignition system must be diagnosed. Cam or Crank sensors are often the problem-the engine computer uses them (especially the crank sensor) to determine spark timing. If sensor malfunctions, you will get no spark.
You should also check for trouble codes. Post back if you don't know how. It just takes a short jumper wire or paper clip to have the codes flashed out by the check engine light.

do you have a K&N air filter system some times oil from the filter will get on the air mass flow senso and wont let it start. If it does try cleaning air mass flow sensor and some of the oil on K&N filter

Check the battery terminal connections. You can also get a free electrical system test done at Advance Auto.

Hi,
That code is for an IAC. Without a scan tool or something to manually
drive it, you won't be able to confirm the problem is the IAC itself.
Your best hope is to just take a shot and change it. See what you have
after that.
Let me know,once done.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
