I was driving the car today and the belts started squealling really loud. When I was driving it 0-35 mph it didn't have all the power but when I got to 40 mph the power was there and the squealling stopped. About a quarter mile down the road the red brake light came on and so did the coolant light real faintly and as I let my foot off the gas they got more bright, so I pulled the car to the side of the road and it was like I didn't have power steering. I turned the car off and under the hood by the belts and pulleys it was smoking. My husband looked at the car after we towed it back to the house and the alternator belt and pulleys on the bottom half of the motor are working but not the top half. He checked the timing belt and that was working. Can you tell me what's going on with this. Please ASAP. Thanks, Jenny
I have the same problem with my car but after i cleaned my alternator with brakekleen it comes on once in a while now only but insteed of the brake light it was the battery light
Could be a variety of things alt locked up,waterpump locked up a/c compressor lock up easy way to tell is take the belts off and see which ones won't turn freely
