There is a capacitor (used for noise suppression) which connects to the base area if the distributor. Its purpose is to allow noise (AC) to pass through it and go to ground. DC does not affect this capacitor, it shows an open circuit to DC, UNLESS it is shorted. If it does, as was in my case, it will immediately cause the 30A fusible link, or current limiter on the positive terminal of the battery to open up and remove power to ignition. Remove the capacitor from the base and reapply power. If this was your cause, then the 30A fusible link current limiter will not blow/open.
Hope this helps.

Had same problem. Few thing may be, like the pickup located inside the ignition (works ,like a crack sensor) it costs about $10.00. Or may be a main rerlay that controsl sparks and fuel injection, relay is located at the drivers side. Fixed changing the main relay that control spark and fuel injectors. VOILA!!!! runs again!!!!

96 dodge ram 1500 5.2, no spark,changed cam,crank sensors,cap and roter,no power to coil

Check ALL the fuses and the ignition switch. May also want to check for a open circuit to the coil. When the ignition is turned to the run position there should be at least 12 volts at the coil positive side.If voltage is not there then it is one of the previous things mentioned.

Getting gas no spark. coil and power into the coil good. 1990 dodge dakota with a 3.9.

The coil, injectors, and fuel pump get power from the ASD relay. If you have power to the coil but no spark from the coil, have you checked the pickup in the distributor ?
The pickup sends a signal to the engine computer and the computer fires the coil.

94 dodge shadow 4 cyl. turns over but no spark won't start

i would check your distributor cap or just replace it it might have a crack and is not allowing the spark to reach the plug chang the rotor while your at it they shouldnt cost more than 20 together if that doesnt do it have your ignition coil tested

#4 cylinder missing. Found spark eratic and weak. Wires cap rotor plugs all new needed to replace anyway. Question is does the igniter/module have a magnet in it to pick up the distributer position rotor?...

The part is a ' hall effect ' pick-up switch. it hasn't any magnetic properties of it's own. When the nodes on the distributer shaft crosses the switch it induces a slight current in the switch which then sends it to the igntion system to fire the coil. If there was a problem with the switch it would affect all cylinders.

Car turns over wont start..replaced rotor and cap and ignition coil..still seems not getting spark....should rotor turn without cap on when turning over

if the basics have been done check the timing, i have seen a few of these cars the camshaft breaks, quick way is just do a compression check on each cylinder, check for fuel pressure and enough spark is coming out of the coil.
