I have a 2000, W-reg Golf GTI (115Bhp). I find that recently, when accelarating through first to second gear, the clutch seems to squeek, especially when accelarating hard. Is my clutch slipping and do i need to replace it?

Re: Noisey Clutch accelarating in 1st and 2nd gear
Sounds like its not sticking to the flywheel instantly but skippng a little bit and the squeek could be the clutch plate springs groaning. If the clutch and flywheel have been used hard it could have a heat glaze on it that resists grip Probably need to get flywheel machined when you eventualy change the clutch.

If as you say....Nothing is happening at all when you turn the
key, you appear to have one of two problems. A faulty starter
motor--or--- A faulty ignition switch. If you can tap the starter motor
while another person keeps the key turned to the start position, and
the engine now starts you now know it is a starter problem. When doing
this PLEASEMAKE SURE THEVEHICLE IS OUT OF GEAR.
If it should start up, or even engage the starter motor while IN GEAR, serious injuries could happen, and I do not mean to your car.
Hello and welcome to FixYa. My friend you have either worn synchromesh or a worn clutch. Try double declutching a double declutch from 1st to 2nd 1st gear.
let clutch out.press clutch back in again.
into second gear.
clutch out again.. If that helps things then it's the synchromesh which is a costly fix if double declutch makes no difference your clutch is on the way out. I Hope this helps you with this .Please Rate Me. Much success and good luck with this . And remember you can always ask me.
i have a 1997 Golf GTI 2.0 liter engine the motor was replace and has 40,000 on it but the body has close to 150,000 on it everytime i shift 1st to 2nd somethings hitting the ground somewhere and secondly the intake maniflold has like a rattle in it or something of that sort and i dont know where its coming from its sounds like a missfire but im not 100% sure yet can someone help me and oo and 4th and 5th gear the clutch makes a biut of grinding noise like not loud and only when your fully in gear and the clutch is all the way out any ideas
Sounds like a stripped reverse gear. And for the second gear probally need a new gear (1st 2nd) and the syncros with a new hub. If too much metal from the gears has already made it's way around in the bearings through the transmission oil you might be looking at a new transmission. The Golf 3 generation had many problems with reverse gears. Sorry to be the one to tell you.
