2002 ford taurus se stopped blowing air out the vents. no air at all even on heat and defrost

possibly the bled door is stuck open so only the cold air from a/c works when on defrost vs closing to allow heat to cycle through the system as defrost runs through the a/c system

There is no vacuum to the controls. Look for a vacuum hose that is no longer connected to the engine intake manifold and repair it.

you have a vacuum leak check vacuum lines

If you cannot change the air flow from the heater vents, defroster vents, to dash vents, etc. as your control switch indicates the problem could be a loose vacuum line. It could have come loose from the engine under the hood. If not you will need to remove the control from the dash and check for vacuum at the control. If you have vacuum there you will need to replace the switch,

If the heat blows hot, the defrost should also. If the heat does not blow hot air, it could be your thermostat, your heater core valve, or the heater core itself. with the vehicle being a 2002, the heater core is the least likely.

yes there is a blend air door that mixes a/c with the heated air and it sounds like it is out of adjustment the other thing is the heater core could be plugged

I have the same problem - cannot get air to blow out defroster vents. Any solutions?

The system just needs to get all the air pockets out if you switched everything like you said look around where the radiator hose meets where you put the thermostat in, there should be something on the lines of a little nipple with a 8 mm bolt on it i will have to pull up the exact setup of your Taurus but its the same general concept your car is fine you just have a big air pocket , what else you can do is while its cold right now and the car isnt running is to go take the radiator cap off the radiator and see if the antifreeze is low now that the car has cold down since you last ran it. If so feel it up top it off in the radiator and it might hurp it self and remove the air pocket all on its own... If you need any more help feel free im always on here id be glad to help more in detail once you try that and look under the hood for the bleeder ( the thing with the nipple on it) Also if you could please rate me i would greatly appreciate it.

Their is a vacuum actuated valve that redirects the flow of air from the panel to the defrost vents when the defrost is selected. I would check the vacuum line running to the valve while the vehicle is running with the defroster on and check whether or not the line is pulling a vacuum to actuate the valve, if not you obviously have a bad line or vacuum line fitting. If you have suction on the vacuum you will need to check the valve and see that is functioning properly. The valve is usually located under the dash on the passengers side. If you are mechanically inclined i would go to a local auto part store and pick up a repair manual for your car for about $20 as they contain diagrams and info that will save you alot of money.
