Starting problems on VW polo coupe parade 1994 M reg

Hi There, My Polo has started and run fine for 18 months but recently is becoming more difficult to start especially if left standing for 2 days or more without being run. I dont think it is an engine problem as when warmed up it runs and idles okay. also it restarts fine after being run. Battery is good too. The problem is getting worse now and often takes me 5 to 10 minutes to get going, then it stalls at traffic lights.. until the engine is thoroughly warmed up it seems. It seems like a fuel blockage? as there is a delay when i press the accelerator pedal, i read somewhere that some polos have dodgy ignition barrels ( whatever they are? ) The car is low mileage and has been super reliable up to now, any help or ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks! Regards Tom

You should have your fuel pump checked out-i think its not supplying your engine with enough fuel to run it.

VW Polo wont start.know it has fuel and spark plugs are sparking.tries to start on first attempt but not after that. Mobile mechanic has run diagnostics found nothing that suggests it shouldn't start

Today's gasoline goes bad very quickly. If car sat unused for over three months, fuel may have gummed up pump or filter or even injectors. (Disregard if diesel) Try using small amount of spray starter fluid to see if it starts for a moment. If so, fuel system may require service.

Hi, Both my headlights on my polo have just stopped working. No warnings. All interior lights, fog lights and side beams are working fine. I had one of my headlights replaced 2 months ago so can't imagine...

It sounds like you have a short. As for the headlights go through owners manual to locate the main relay for the headlights in the power distribution box.

2005 Suzuki Aerio hard to start, runs fine!?

I must assume the starter cranks at full speed. if yes.
then
its
1: never tuned up.
2: flooding (use wide open throttle to clear floods) "bad spark"
3: starving for fuel
there are simple tests for all 3 failure modes.
do you wish to test , or guess.?

Hi i started my car last night and got and INSP flashing on my dashboard ive got the car for 6 months now according to the dealer they serviced the car on 169 000 km it is standing on 176 000 km now is it...

The "INSP" message becomes flashing on the dash after 15000 km or after 1 year, depending which one occuring first. Therefore even the car has been serviced at 169000 km and now has 176000 km, it's very probable that one year had passed.

2000 Volkswagen Polo runs rough and dies in wet weather and rain

Girlfriend's 99 Polo had same issue. In fact it recurred yesterday! Anyway, am not expert, but it seems to be due to deposits building up inside distributor cap area and then getting damp in wet conditions, causing shorting of ignition 'signals'. Found solution is to clean inside cap every 6 to 12 months with a cloth and IPA (or water if you're stuck - just make sure to dry it properly!) and the problem goes away. Silly thing about her Polo is that there's no decent splashguard to protect the engine area from splashes from puddles etc. I've lost all respect for VW coz of the amount of silly things that have gone wrong with her car...! Hope this helps - sounds to me like it's exactly the same problem.
