Check if gearbox oil level is not low. If it is at the correct level and still doing it, it means that the sync ring on second is us and need to be replaced by a trained artisan. Gearbox will be removed and taken to a workshop for repairs.
Hi
Couple of things to check first, is there enough oil in gearbox ?
Is the clutch riding low or high ?
and is the engine high miles ?
Low oil could certainly cause this type of problem.
Bleed the clutch if it's riding low.
High mileage could indicate worn syncromesh.
If the first two don't cure it then it's on to the third.
Most folk in this situation would opt for a reconditioned box or if you've got the cash, a new one !
Taking your gearbox to a garage will most certainly start costing heavy money if you ask them to sort it out. A gearbox refurb is a highly skilled job and costs can spiral. Better to just go for a pre-refurb.
It sounds like BS to me but what do I know. I'm only in this business for 40 years. What they did was put heavy oil in the gear box to try to mask the sound. That's why it is difficult to shift (stiff).
Alway ask for the old parts when a replacement is not visible after repairs!
Hi it sounds like the problem is with the clutch unless you vehicle is auto if its auto box then the chances are this needs replacing if you have manual gearbox then i would get the clutch replaced or looked at. If the clutch is ok then it could be that the gear selector inside the gearbox is worn and needs replacing if this is the case then it would be cheaper to get a reconditioned gearbox as repairing it would cost about the same as a recon. If you need further assistance then let me know ok
had exactly the same problem with mine, its in my mates garage as we speak. he had to take the engine out open the gear box and check the bearings. All the bearings were worn !!!! had to buy a wole bearing kit, £170 . plus labour, lot cheaper than getting it reconditioned by specialists!!! they wanted £1000 for doing exactly what my mate has done for me. Hope this helps you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like you need a new gear box or you can get your old one reconditioned at a gearbox specialist. i think your ploblem occourd because you may of had no gearbox oil inside the gearbox
There is lots of people out there that think the problem is to do with a pressure switch. In a way they are right. As the transmission fluid gets old it's viscosity and properties change. It gets grippier and allows for fluctuations in the pressure in the gearbox.
The best thing to do before sending it to an automatic transmission specialist would be to give it an oil change
it needs 3.5 litres of Type-D transmission fluid. Do not use anything else contary to what you might hear will work. I had the same problem in mine where I could neither put my foot down or remove it from the accellerator pedal without the gearbox going into limp mode.
After the oil change the gearbox has been perfect. the oil only cost $34AUD for 5 litres. Drain all the oil and place 3.5 litres in the gear box.
There is a plug with a square hole that is the filler plug on top of the gear box.
On the bottom of the gearbox there is a filler plug and if you look closely there is a hex head behind that. To drain the gearbox you must undo the outer hex head which is the drain plug/fluid level tube.
