Have a resistor burned out

Hi, well if a SMPSU has "Blown" a resistor, this is generally NOT good. However it depends on which one, sometimes the designer will use a High value, several megohms, resistor, to feed some AC "Hash" into the starting circuit, to initially fire up the power supplies oscillator.

This because it is connected across the mains as it were is often subject to power spikes etc, and they eventually "Kill' this component.

So if the resistor IS a high value 1/4, 1/2 or 1 Watt Carbon resistor, you can most likely just replace it with an equivalent one.(It's not too critical)

However IF it is a resistor elsewhere then this indicates a short circuit on an Output, You MUST ascertain if that "Short' still exists or was external, If proved external, then Check all semiconductors junctions all around the "Blown Resistor" and replace all faulty components.

Now if it's NOT either of those then it;'s most likely in the mains side of the SMPSU, this must be approached carefully as we are dealing with mains power, again we must isolate the cause and eliminate any shorts etc, then replace the resistor and see if it goes.Often faults here damage the IC too, so check that first.

Some DIY site below to help.

Zalman VF2000 LED fan starts then stops right after boot

I say its a dud. The fan works by magnets inside. When the electromagnets get electricity it causes the polity of them to change making the fan move. Its possible half of them are dead outta the box. Send it back especially because the connections to a video card is simple considering its a plug.

Anyone know where to get a new pump?

I give you the newegg of liquid cooling.
http://www.frozencpu.com/cat/l1/g30/Liquid_Cooling.html

I am not sure if the pump in a XT can be replaced. They sell pumps sperately and I certainly do think real men have their liquid cooling internal. Considering the XT was made so that you dont have to mess with radiators and pumps I doubt you can replace the pump. Looking at the XT pump its weak at 300 liters a hour.

I recommend danger den, swiftech and OCZ. It looks like the XT uses 3/8 inch so thats what these pumps are.

Computer is overheating with the system on

Touch the heatsink and see if it is cold, warm or hot. If it is cold, then you will need to reinstall the heatsink and make sure you apply the thermal pad or compound properly. If it is hot, you might not have enough water circulation.

Zalman RSSC driver problem

you may have to use the "safely remove hardware" icon in the system tray to turn off the USB module before unplugging it as it could be causing a power spike, also this could result in more permernant damage.

The fan is making a clicking noise

It probably sucked some object into the fan. the only way to clear it, is to open the laptop up and extract whatever is in the fan.

Good day

No. The ZM-WB5 is only compatible with Intel’s LGA775 and socket 478, as well as a few AMD processors. The Core i7's have LGA 1366 sockets.

Cpu fan

There are usually more than one place to plug in a CPU fan. Only one of them is actually for the CPU fan, and monitored by the system BIOS. Make sure your fan is plugged into the right connector.

Cpu fan not running fast enough

This will depend on the motherboard you are using.

however, you need to make sure that the CPU fan lead is plugged into the correct plug on the motherboard... for example, I have an Intel 975xbx motherboard and it has 4 fan plugs, but only one of those is for the CPU. The others are for front/rear/top fans. If the CPU fan is plugged into one of the secondary ports, the CPU fan wont speed up correctly.

Also, some BIOS settings in the motherboard allow you to enable or disable automatic fan speed adjustment, and also set the temperature points.
