Straight 30 weight oil is best, but a 10-30 will also work...

The belt tensioners on top of the deck need adjusted, or you make have to adjust the pulleys to tighten the belt. Sometimes if you have the deck lowered to low to the ground, uneven terain can cause that. If you have everything adjusted correctly, simply raise the deck another notch and mow.

wont crank or wont start. 2 different things... wont crank, in this order: check fuse, brake switch ( adjustment and operation ) and then ignition switch wont start but does crank: check for spark, yes then check fuel shut off solenoid. no, disconnect kill wire to coil and check again, still no, coil is issue, if yes after disconnecting kill wire suspect a safety switch

Hi, check that the choke is operating and make sure the plug is wet after cranking. If so replace the sparkplug as it may be breaking down under compression. Also make sure it has compression ad it may have a stuck valve. regards Phil

Could be failing ignition module or needs valve lash adjustment... periodic requirement for BS OHV engines.

First check the safety switch under seat is working by bridging the gap.Try the same with the safety switch on hand brake.Check fuse hasn't blown.Check spark plug is intact and cable is correctly fitted.Check in line fuel filter.Ensure battery is fully charged, a drop in output will result in not starting.Hope this resolves the problem.Gareth

there should be a place right below the spool to either put a screwdriver or a wrench in and you will turn the spool like a nut to get it off
